Hi there

This is my first post do not sure if it's in the right section, I currently have a fiat ducato 1.9td 1999 hymer, yesterday the gearbox transmission mount bolts sheared and split the drive shaft. I have Adac cover and they have towed me to a campsite,however they can't find a garage to repair the damage here, anyone know the costs per km of towing back to say Germany to get it fixed. Anyone had experience of a breakdown so remote? Any help or pointers would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Kris

Hi Kris.

My condolences ! Not the ideal place to have a major breakdown.

I have a Fiat service book ( quite an old one ) which indicates that there are Fiat " service " dealers in Bodo and Trondheim - although I would have thought the ADAC people would know about them (?)

So, you may not have to go all the way to Germany.

I'll give you the e-mail addresses of the two dealers + phone numbers - and maybe they can advise you.

As I say, it's quite an old book that I have so hopefully the details are still current.

Bodo = Nymo Bil As. e-mail = POST@NYMOBIL.NO Tel; 75507900

Trondheim = Bilcentrum AS e-mail BILCENTRUM@BILCENTRUM.NO Tel: 73829700

( I have copied the e-mail addresses as they are shown in the book- i.e. upper case ).

Best of luck.

:-|

p.s. There are also two service centres listed in Oslo.

Having visited the Lofoten Islands earlier this year, I can understand how isolated you must feel.

...the age of your vehicle and parts availability may be part of the problem, but the Norwegian Fiat Professional site lists these as the closest (Fiat official) possibilities for repair (and they have current websites).

http://johvian.no/ at Leknes on Lofoten

http://www.vesteralen-bil.no/ (at Sortland on the adjoining Vesteralen Islands)

http://www.autonordas.no/ (at Harstad on the Vesteralen)

..given the number of "Bobil" travelling the islands, (and the Norwegian abilities with most things mechanical) I'd be very surprised if (subject to parts availability) you couldn't get someone to repair it reasonably locally.

If you have no luck through the "official" Fiat route, I'd be inclined to try any reasonable-sized local workshop (who, even if they can't do it themselves, may well be able to recommend somewhere).

Alternatively, try a local "Bobil" dealer such as:

http://www.kpsonner.no

...to see if they can recommend a workshop (it isn't clear whether they can do major mechanical work themselves).

Good Luck.

Thanks for the help guys the adac were only looking inside a 50km radius so leknes is just outside that. Unfortunately everything is closed till Monday! So I'll start in leknes and work outwards haha

Cheers

Kris

Certainly seems unlikely that you will have to take it all the way to Germany !

Once it's sorted I hope you let us know how you got on , as it may be useful for someone else in the future.

Well adac gave me two options take it 90k and see what they might do about it no guarantee the garage will fix it, or take it home, if they don't fix it here I have to get my own way back with it. So we're getting it sent home, now looking at cross border car hire to try and get us back to mainland Europe eg Germany and buy a smaller camper to finish off our trip. Thanks for all the help guys
