travellingtog
Hello everyone - please may I have some constructive advice please and i do apologise if this has been raised a thousand times? I can't seem to get insurance to go full time in the UK without a fixed permanent UK address. Im so keen to leave my rented accommodation and step into the full time life. I haven't purchased a vehicle yet but from what I understand it has to be less than 10 years old and fully coach built, but not a van conversion and worth more than 25K to meet the specialist under writers requirement criteria. Does this sound correct? Also i intend not to have a fixed address merely a mail forwarding service or a C/O address. Any advice would be appreciated as Im going around in circles. Apologies if this has been discussed preciously. *-)
Brian Kirby
Have you spoken to Comfort Insurance (just Google it)? They do full timing insurance, but I don't know what their conditions are. There are a few others, doubtless someone else will be able to let you have names/contact details.
Derek Uzzell
Welocome to the Out&AboutLive forums, Brian (travellingtog). As Brian Kirby has said, it would be worth you contacting Comfort Insurance for advice (though I note you already seem to be aware of potential restrictions regarding motorhome age, type, value, etc.) 'Full-timing' with no fixed abode has been discussed on these forums, but as it’s a relatively unusual thing for motorcaravanners to do the subject rarely comes up. Also, as the particular circumstances of the people considering full-timing are often dissimilar, it’s not easy to provide focused advice. Your best forum on which to discuss your plans is likely to be The Motorhome Fulltimers Association's http://www.motorhome365.com/
lennyhb
Comfort is about the only company that does true full time insurance and the conditions you quote sound like Comforts. Without a residential address it is your only choice.
Basil
Nothing really surprises me with the clauses and requirements set by insurance companies but I am curious as to why the stipulation that it must be coachbuilt and not a van conversion is insisted upon. Why would a C/B be more insurable full time than a PVC, anyone know? Age and value I can understand to some extent but can't fathom a logical reason for C/B against PVC. travellingtog
Thanks for your kind advice everyone - it is certainly a nightmare and there seems to be so many obstacles to climb over, but as soon as no fixed address, absence on an electoral roll and MH type and value is mentioned, they seem to change all the goal posts to suit the risk and the underwriters criteria which seems to differ between companies considerably. I will keep trying and hopefully manage to secure something soon.

henrypartridge
Best way round this is to have a friend or relative who will allow you to register on the electoral role and have your pist sent to that address. You are then living there and not full timing: make sure you sleep there one night a year.
