MGA2702
Has anyone installed or had installed an LPG System in the Autocruise Starspirit 2008? I would like to know the maximum bottle size that will fit. I appreciate that 2 x 6kg will fit but I would like to know if the 11kg bottle will fit? Derek Uzzell
Welcome to the Out&AboutLive forums, Mark. It’s not just the dimensions of the gas bottle itself that you may need to consider. For example, Gaslow’s latest R67 user-refillable bottles have their gas outlet pointing upwards at an angle (see attached photo) which may complicate fitting if the gas-locker’s ceiling is close to the top of the bottle. I can’t advise on whether a 2008 Starspirit’s gas-locker will accommodate an 11kg bottle, though if the locker was tightly sized for a pair of 6kg Calor bottles (as was commonplace for UK-built motorhomes) it seems unlikely that an 11kg bottle wouldl fit. If you measure the locker’s dimensions and check the quoted dimensions of the 11kg refillable bottle you plan to buy, it may well become obvious that the locker will be too small to accommodate the 11kg canister. If it looks like the 11kg bottle MIGHT fit, you’d be wise to actually try putting one in the locker before committing to purchase it. Even if you could shoehorn an 11kg bottle into the locker, the chances are probably small that you’d be able to carry a ‘back up’ bottle as well (eg. an 11kg refillable + a 6kg Calor canister), so you might be better opting for a 6kg refillable in the first place. Tracker
If you can live with more frequent refills a 6kg refillable along with a 6kg Calor backup work well together and the cost savings and ease of access in the locker far outweigh the slight inconvenience of getting gas more often for us, but it is a personal choice. Derek Uzzell
Besides the Gaslow products http://gasproducts.co.uk/catalogsearch/result/?f=gaslow+refillable+cylinders++accessories&q=gaslow+refillable+cylinders there are other makes/designs of user-refillable metal bottle. Examples are shown here http://www.autogasshop.co.uk/refillable-bottles-20-c.asp http://www.lpgshop.co.uk/refillable-gas-bottle-for-motorhomes/ It’s worth adding that - to some extent - a bottle’s asking-price will reflect the bottle’s technical sophistication and its features. For instance, the cheapest bottles are likely to have a magnetically-operated contents-level gauge with a limited range and questionable accuracy, while more expensive bottles will (usually) have a ‘mechanically-operated’ gauge with a wider range and greater accuracy. A basic installation could comprise simply connecting the user-refillable bottle to the motorhome’s gas-regulator using the existing gas-hose and refilling the bottle via an adapter http://www.gaslowdirect.com/Gaslow-Direct-Fill-Adapter or (at a significantly higher cost) a remote-filling kit could be used http://www.gaslowdirect.com/Refillable-Shop And, of course, if the system is not DIY-ed, labour charges will need to be factored in. As well as metal user-refillable bottles, a composite gas-container is marketed in the UK http://www.safefill.co.uk/ http://www.cannockcaravanaccessories.co.uk/product/safe-fill-refillable-gas-cylinders/
marksrv6
Don't worry about smaller bottles because you can fill them at any time just top them up when you buy your diesel. I just top mine up whenever I am in a garage that sells LPG Never run out yet
