Hi guys off to Belgium next weekend for the 1st time overseas and my question is do we have to have sky etc fitted for watching uk tv or a freeview box, does anybody know of a company in Kent and a rough cost would be. Won't get it done in time as only a few days left but we are going to a variety or countries next year.

Thanks

We are in northern Spain at the moment. Before we came away we invested in two systems

- a 54" satellite dish(free standing)

- a lightening cable to connect the iPhone to the tv and a contract with Three which gave loads of data to theoretically let us stream tv.

The satellite worked well until about mid France and we didn't get anything lower down.

The phone was useless - it worked fine in the uk, but as soon as it switched to French or Spanish signal providers on 3G it wouldn't work.

What we have found best is just buying some wifi from whatever camping place we are at and streaming to onto the iPad using the Filmon tv app. If it is poor wifi we just listen to the radio with theSimple Radio app.

Good luck

The Three "Feel at Home" service does not allow tethering, so presumably the network detected that you were doing that by connecting your TV to the phone.  I don't think it prohibits streaming per se.

We get good reception of UK channels using our small (40cm) satellite dish in a dome down to mid France but that's it.

A broadcast aerial will only ever allow you to get local TV channels.

If you want to use catch up services like BBC IPlayer abroad (via WiFi) you have to set up a VOIP account, so you can pretend to be in UK by routing your reception through a UK-based server so the BBC website cannot see where you really are.  There is a charge for using this type of service.  I tried that once while abroad and it worked.
