carioca Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 sorry to do this but can anybody tell me how to get 27 to 30 mpg as advertised in test reports in magazines? i own a 2005 carioca656 2.3td the best i have ever got is 24.5mpg this was doing 60mph on motorway, if driving about 70 to 75 mph iam down to 17.5 to 18.5mpg no where near the claimed figures i have now covered 9500 miles so engine should be loosened up by now
enodreven Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 Hi, I think you can answer that yourself, albeit you may not like the answer, but its to slow down to around 50/55, that's the only way i have found for getting much over 25 mpg. I personally don't mind if the MPG is around 25 so i wouldn't worry if you only get 24.5,
Dave Newell Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 Hi Carioca, you have to compare like with like. Yours is a relatively big coachbuilt with a large frontal area and a relatively small engine. This takes a lot of pushing through the air and the engine will have to work a lot harder than perhaps the 2.8 would. The claimed 27-30MPG from road tests would more likely be for low profile or even panel van conversions. As Brian says, slowing down to 55-60 for cruising will help. D.
