Desperately seeking all season tyres...

It’s commonly claimed that “CP”-marked tyres are designed to be more tolerant of motorhomes being inactive for extended periods. This is said in the “CP Tyres” paragraph in this glossary

but saying it does not, of course, make it true.

Although there is endless argument about the ‘best’ tyres for motorhomes, the reality is that the buyer of a new motorome will rarely have the opportunity to choose the make or type of tyre it comes with. SEVEL-based vehicles have for years dominated the European coachbuilt motorhome marketplace and the tyres originally fitted to these will be ‘camping-car’ type, made either by Michelin or Continental. Changing from the specification of the originally fitted tyres normally only becomes relevant when replacement is necessary.

In this instance an enquiry was made about obtaining ‘all season’ tyres that have a 215/70 R15C 109 specification and are M+S-marked. There are plenty of M+S-marked tyres available in the UK that meet that specification, but few will be marketed as ‘all season’ and even fewer will have the “3PMSF” marking that may be important in countries with winter-tyre regulations.

No equivalent to “Which”-type testing has been carried out for van/motorhome tyres, though (as has been mentioned before here) there was a recentish independent test by ProMobil magazine of six 215/70 R15C 109 tyres using Ducato panel vans as the test vehicles. Hankook’s Vantra LT RA18 scored highest, but this is a ‘summer’ tyre and, although M+S-marked, is not advertised as ‘all season’.

(It would be interesting to learn what tyres the original poster eventually chose.)
