Very sorry to hear this Nimod.

Do you have more specific details of the gear that was stolen to post on here?

I often look for stuff on fleabay for our MH and can keep an eye out as I am sure others can. Those of us who go to boot sales may also be good scouts.

Many hands may make lighter work of finding the nasty piece of work that did this. Not in the market for a mobility scooter but could keep an eye out for that too but make model colour etc would be good.

Good luck with the search.

Veronica

Since my 2010 Hymer Exsis was stolen in June this year,I have been watching stolen vehicle sites. It disturbs me that theft of caravans and motorhomes seem to be on the increase-or is it me?

If it is on the increase perhaps the police need to 'up their game'. The Police treat motorhome theft as a vehicle theft, which it is,but they are not treating it as a campaign and rely on the insurers to cough up which is passed on to us with increased premiums, perhaps the insurers need to be proactive wit the police.

The video shows Transit pick ups towing them,a favourite modus operandi with the Traveller community. The Police are too scared to check the legitimacy of Travellers vehicles and caravans.

I have a lot of sympathy with the owners, insurance can replace a vehicle but not the personal items.

If I ever caught one of these thieving scum I wouldn't be responsible for my actions!

Maybe the reason Motorhome thefts are increasing is because I believe the sale of Motorhomes is possibly at an all time high and these scumbags can see a quick buck. As you say it's unfortunate it's not just the vehicle but all the accessories that go with it.

This is obviously the reason insurance companies are insisting on higher grade alarm systems and even tracking devices.

i notice it did not have a wheel clamp on it. we always put one on. I know they can be cut, but hopefully by the time they have done that , you would have heard the noise ? Also have extra locks on the cab and van doors Maybe a good home for the vagrants this time of year??

It would either have swam the Channel that morning or have been given false plates. I mentioned on a thread about how easy it is to clone stolen cars and motorhomes and how easy it is to sell them on. In the case of Motorhomes the police don't quite know what they are based on so given a stolen vehicle to look out for and its number plate any motorhome reg plate would virtually do as long as the age looks similar. Roadside reg plate monitoring camera's only check the plate. But on selling it they would need to get a plate copied from a van that's already on the road, same colour, same year. Stolen motorhomes are out there just waiting for YOU the buyer, nice bargain price of course. So be aware and check everything.

Have you ever wondered if there is more than one car out there with the same plates as another. Motorhomes might be the same as long as they don't come together.

A little DVLA hiccup...

That happened to a mate of one of my friends. Police stopped him one night after running a vehicle check and it came back as stolen. But he'd bought it legitimately from a car auction and had the paperwork. Anyway long story short police gave him a producer and he took everything in the following day. Sure enough it had been stolen and fitted with identical plates to the same vehicle model which was registered to someone in Birmingham.

But this is the weird part. The chap (with the car that turned out to be stolen), had taxed and insured it for five years without anything ever getting flagged up on the database!!
