yoko8pups
Good luck, we are now in our 17th month of importation, I'm interested to see how you get on with a new one. Who are you using to import it? A lot of the fault lies with the DVLA, so many mistakes on the V5.

Hayes Leisure, they are official Pilote dealers so don't envisage any problems. 17 months is rediculous and I am sure you have a tale or two to tell but I can't believe that's all down to the DVLA
Derek Uzzell
Barcobird My understanding is that yoko8pups purchased in the UK a 2005 LHD Hymer C524 in Spring 2015 with the intention of exporting the motorhome to Portugal and registering it there. This is mentioned in these 2016 forum threads http://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Hymer-headlights/37755/ http://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/I-give-up-/40813/ Although communication with the DVLA has evidently proved difficult, much of the delay must be attributed to the particular circumstances involved. My assumption was yokopups8 was importing to the UK as I am which is normally a doddle. However if he wants to import it to Portugal then good luck. If the vehicle in question is straightforward like a Ford Fiesta or Opel Astra with European certificate of conformity then it's normally no more than about 3 months. Motorhomes are a totally different thing and would be a nightmare, I don't know the facts involved with this case but the first place I would have visited would be a well known importation agency. They normally take the stress out of the situation and can sometimes pull a few strings to get the process moving along.

Any motorhome built outside the UK and then registered in the UK will be ‘imported’. The registration process should be straightforward if the motorhome is RHD, though there will be extra hoops to jump through if (like your Pilote and my Rapido) the vehicle is LHD. It may well be simpler for a motorhome dealer (rather than a private individual) to UK-register an imported motorhome but, generally speaking, the DVLA’s bureaucratic procedures seem to work pretty well. After my Rapido was registered I received its V5C document by post in the usual way and then another V5C shortly afterwards. The UK dealership I had bought the Rapido from told me that this had been known to happen with LHD imports and I chose to destroy one of the V5Cs rather than involve the DVLA further. It’s evident from past forum discussions that screw-ups can and do happen with UK-registration of imported motorhomes, and that the greater the complexity of the procedure the more likely that there will be screw-ups at the DVLA end.
