Would it surprise you Dave that even comprehensively educated, council house dweller with a pretty ropey degree in something akin to basket weaving like me has met one of them. Despite being possessed of an enormous intellect he was as modest and unassuming as my granny who left school when she was 14. He happens to be one of those who agreed with the government. I think you'll find that he's rarely in the company people as clever as he is unless he's at work. Perhaps Theresa was playing a very smart game all along in appealing a decision which she knew was unlikely to go the way she claimed she wanted it to go. First she can blame the court for the ruling which you’ve already swallowed wholesale from Dacre’s rag and now if she is blocked from triggering Article 50 (unlikely according to a head count of likely dissenters) or delaying it (more likely) she can blame the Scots, the Welsh, the Lib Dems for that. Gotta hand it to her she would have played a blinder if this was her gambit. As someone who took over from a mess she inherited from DC she’s also not doing too badly at absolving herself or the Tories in general for setting us on a path that is fraught with difficulties they failed to foresee and/or chose to ignore. I can understand why some Brexiters are angry that people appear to be putting barriers in the way of getting what they wanted out of the referendum it is just that they are angry with the wrong people. Glad to hear you are comfortable with your assumptions btw, some of mine are inclined to give me a bit a gyp now and then. ;-)

The referendum was a long time ago. Reality is starting to kick in. Another year or two down the road those very people who they serve may well be demanding MP's vote against Brexit. Yes they want rid of the nasty foreigners and daft bendy banana laws but not if its going to cost them anything. The Supreme Court decision was regarding triggering Article 50 , that you can't deny will happen ... It may well be we have an election before the two year deadline is up ... I would imagine those Labour MPs who may go against Corbyn and against the people they serve may well lose out and open the door to more Tories and quite possibly UKIP ... I think your mad in thinking folks view will change in two years time ... What this will do with each delay will only make stronger leave voters thoughts regarding leaving Peoples views will change Antony. Its alright for wealthy right wing retired motorhomers who can just shout and stomp their feet in support of Brexit at any cost but the massive majority of leave voters are poor. It wont take much for them to give it up. A week is a long time in politics as well never mind two years. I already linked a while back a couple of times to a north east Tyne Tees survey which showed a dramatic swing to remain. Its only a matter of time and maybe a bit of political manipulation. :D For every survey you show I suppose I could show one that differs ... For every radio phone in that callers support Brexit another won't and so on and so on ... The one thing I always put faith in is what folk say to your face and to me whenever the discussion gets onto Brexit I'm hearing the same thing all the time ... Let's crack on and no regrets ... I'm going to come up to your house and sample the beer , the cheese and the guitar and hopefully your going to point me in the direction of some of these disgruntled leave voters because in all honesty they aren't around here Im not sure you will find many that voted leave around here Antony but I would welcome the chance of a few beers and stuff with you anytime of course. That will happen I am sure. :D I imagine it will be a riot and a proper laugh especially if you bring Dave Helmet with you. :D There has definitely been a shift of opinion in parts of the North East though. The poll I posted a while ago proved that for the entire Tyne Tees Area. The nearest large town to us is Darlington where over the cause of the last six months or so I have spoken face to face with several people that regretted their decision or voted in protest and certainly a few young people who wished they had got of their arses and voted. :'( I have however met nobody who has changed their mind the other way and regretted voting remain. I am sure they exist but unlike where you are my experience here or at least near here is that there is an element of Bregret. My point is that it wont take much hardship for Bregret to be rife. Right now the poorer voters who voted leave are thinking that all the prophecies of doom and gloom and being worse off are just lies and "Scaremongering". When it starts to come true they will think differently. Most of them probably know next to nothing about the EU and probably saw this as a chance to blame something for their lot. Maybe they should have looked at the real reasons but hey ho. Once it becomes apparent that their lives will be worse they wont give a toss about leaving. As I said, many want Brexit but are not prepared to pay for it. or can even afford to. Maybe it will take a disaster for somewhere like Sunderland with Nissan pulling out and some big job losses to bring them to their senses. If we continue, these sort of hardships and probably a recession are just around the corner. Lets see how popular Brexit is then.

Thankfully i don't live in that dump of a town (i live well out in the sticks over the border in Cheshire), but Pelmet and Antony would love Stoke as it's Brexit heartland, under attack by UKIP, and has the unfortunate association with Fascist Oswald Mosley who as this article described "lured the poor with the promise of paradise".......hmmm, that sounds familiar doesn't it? ;-) http://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/fascist-chief-lured-poor-promise-paradise/story-12579882-detail/story.html Mosley lived in opulent splendour near where i grew up as a child and my mum told me when when she was a teenager she once fell for this smartly dressed lad. Keen to impress her parents with her new flame, she took him to meet her parents......who promptly threw him out and told my mum she was never to see him again. derek pringle
hi all, I wouldn't be surprised if this current farce, amendments and requirements etc, will not be seen by the rest of the EU countries as a clear signal to be as hard as possible in the negotiations in the belief that a bad deal for us may be the way to keep us in. I do believe that Parliament and not just the P.M should be responsible;a la Blair, but as has been said before the referendum should possibly have contained a bit more definition in its content. Too late now though so instead we will make a laughing stock of ourselves IMO. cheers derek

I don't like my local accent, but always been fascinated by other accents and Liverpool is possibly my favourite with North West Scotland a close second. Liverpool is only a 40 minute drive from me and i love the place, the accent and the people. East coast of Scotland is difficult. Can't understand half they say. Glaswegian accent i understand perfectly yet some Scot friends of mine cannot figure how i can because they struggle with it. Surprises me that Bullet ... That Liverpudlian accent is cool ... I imagined you'd be more comfortable with a Bradford accent >:-) Great people too and their sense of humour is part of their dna. I once worked with a couple of scousers and every day was like a comedy show with the pair of 'em constantly batting banter back 'n forth trying to out do each other. They were only temp workers on short term contract and after they left the place was like a graveyard. Yorkshire accents i sometimes confuse with Lancashire.....much to the annoyance of both, but to an outsider there are similarities. I always liked music from The Oldham Tinkers and Fivepenny Piece. Not "Yorkies" but your neighbours.
Bulletguy
A 50 year old man has been arrested and detained in custody over suspicion of racially aggravated malicious communications to Gina Miller. Met Police have also issued eight "cease and desist" notices to other individuals. I read some of the vile sick threats. Threatening someone with death or rape is off the scale. I hope this man gets named, shamed and serious jail time. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-38744073
