Bulletguy
As the thread title says.....because i'm not and normally i rely on Dennis Skinner for razor sharp quips which despite his 84 years and 47 years as MP, is still capable of delivering. But this was a brilliant speech by Ken Clarke in the House of Commons today. In total he spoke for nearly 17 minutes.....no mean feat for a 76 year old. Theresa May is living in some kind of “Alice in Wonderland” type impossible scenario: “Apparently you follow the rabbit down the hole and emerge in a Wonderland where suddenly countries throughout the world are queuing up to give us trading advantages and access to their markets that previously we’ve never been able to achieve. Nice men like President Trump and President Erdogan are just impatient to abandon their normal protectionism and give us access . . . No doubt somewhere there’s a hatter holding a tea party with a dormouse!” http://www.newstatesman.com/politics/media/2017/01/watch-ken-clarke-s-blistering-anti-brexit-speech-article-50-debate

Sounds like my own mum who could still hold her own in any discussion. Sadly a serious stroke put paid to that at 86 and she passed away two weeks later. starvin marvin
He's pretty good at holding his argument together, and his principles. He is not your typical Tory, that's for sure. I rather liked his earlier put down of the DoJ over the size of the prison population.

Whilst i don't agree with everything he says, i agree with quite a lot and he makes his points well too. I think he's the type of Tory politician you could easily have a good debate with over a few beers and fags (think he still smokes cigars). antony1969
Looks like his speech went down like a lead weight ... He's a dinosaur , a relic from the past and it looks like the past is where The EU is going thankfully ... UKIP Im sure will benefit from those Labour MPs that voted against it ... Its a beautiful thing isn't it

RogerC
antony1969 - 2017-02-02 10:15 AMDiane Abbott was conveniently taken ill before the vote yesterday around 5pm ... Mmmmm I wonder Spineless self promoting toady methinks. Pontificates about most everything that will get her 'up the ladder' and then.....according to fellow LABOUR MP John Mann:“We all know what is going on here. She bottled the vote. It is cowardice. You don’t abstain on the big votes. It is embarrassing to see that. She ought to give an apology to the Labour party for doing so. That is not leadership, that’s cowardice. Looks like if she had been present and stuck to her 'principles' and defied the 'whip' she would have had to resign from the Shadow Cabinet.....so looking seriously like self serving interests she didn't vote meaning her stance on representing her constituents was clumsily avoided in favour of keeping her 'prestigious'? post. Her actions speak volumes about the women ... She took to a violent migraine at 5pm but was tweeting away quite happily an hour later ... Any migraine sufferer will tell you the last thing they would want to do is tweet , Facebook and so on and so on ... Horrible woman , horrible soon to be non-existent party as UKIP will I believe take what is left of the working class vote ... If indeed we have a working class anymore ... Corbyns party is in tatters
