Bulletguy
More like Hollywood than White House. In a phone call to the Mexican President, Trump threatens to send US troops in! *-) "You have a bunch of bad hombres down there," Trump told Pena Nieto, according to the excerpt given to AP. "You aren't doing enough to stop them. I think your military is scared. Our military isn't, so I just might send them down to take care of it." http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/trump-threatens-send-troops-mexico-stop-bad-hombres-article-1.2961897 Not satisfied with that, he then blasts Australian PM over a refugee agreement, boasts about the size of his win, then abruptly ends the call 25 minutes into what was scheduled to be an hour long call after telling Turnbull that he had spoken with four other world leaders that day — including Russian President Vladimir Putin — and that “This was the worst call by far." Looks like Trump has become certifiable! *-) *-) https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/no-gday-mate-on-call-with-australian-pm-trump-badgers-and-brags/2017/02/01/88a3bfb0-e8bf-11e6-80c2-30e57e57e05d_story.html?utm_term=.05fe207e9ae9 Meanwhile......somewhere on a street in China; http://mail.armyrecognition.com/january_2017_global_defense_security_army_news_industry/china_would_deployed_several_df-41_icbm_intercontinental_balistic_missile_in_different_locations_12501174.html https://www.rt.com/news/374874-china-icbm-russia-border/
Geeco
Hi Paul it is interesting that a lot of the detail written in the article has not been reported in the Australian papers I read. The main point reported was that Trump agreed to accept a number of the Manus Island refugees subject to vetting. The one other point of the arrangement not discussed in that article is that Australia was committed to take an equal number of American detainees for re settlement in Australia. I suspect that part of the reason for the swap was to send a message to potential people smugglers that they would not succeed under any circumstances. This is a major issue for the Australian Government and one that is deviding the Australian community. There is no easy answer but if the report is factual it does show what a threat Trump could be to world peace with discussion like that with world leaders. Cheers,

Cheers, Hi Gary Obama signed the order with Turnbull over US taking 1,250 refugees when serving out the final weeks of his Presidency. Trump now wants to renege on that, just as many knew he would, more out of petty vindictiveness than anything else as he's sought to overturn virtually everything Obama did. So ok, America now has "a President" who doesn't like any executive orders and decisions made by an outgoing President. Normally if it involves other countries, as in this case, the way forward is to resolve any differences through diplomatic channels.....not insult another countries PM and slam the phone down in a fit of childish pique. But that's "the Trump way". PM Turnbull is reported in our media here as saying ""the call ended courteously, that's all I want to say about that." The underlined bit say's it all really. Trump is playing at being judge, jury and executioner hosting a reality television show. He thinks behaving like this makes him look "a tough guy".....it doesn't, it just makes him a bullying low life street thug and extremely stupid. He's playing around with other peoples lives here. I frequent a number of forums where many Americans post. You'd be surprised how many feel he's not only lost the plot, but embarrassing the country by his ridiculous outbursts. The possibility of him being removed from office are increasing daily. When i woke earlier today it was the first time i was genuinely relieved to see thick heavy grey clouds which cover this small island with the occasional blue sky peeking through. I half expected to wake to this http://oi67.tinypic.com/av6bm0.jpg with missiles flying past my front window. :'( :'( https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2017/feb/02/australia-struggling-to-save-refugee-agreement-after-trumps-fury-at-dumb-deal
Guest pelmetman
Seems a pointless exercise to me?.......Why swap refugees?........ They seem safe enough on the island, so let they stay there until they think its safe enough to return home ;-) ..... Or are they really just economic migrants dressed up as refugees *-) ........ antony1969
It must be a grown up game swapping refugees ... As kids we swapped football cards ... G'day its a beautiful thing mate
Bulletguy
Gary......this is what i mean. "The United States and China will fight a war within the next 10 years over islands in the South China Sea, and “there’s no doubt about that”. At the same time, the US will be in another “major” war in the Middle East." Those are the views – nine months ago at least – of one of the most powerful men in Donald Trump’s administration, Steve Bannon. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/feb/02/steve-bannon-donald-trump-war-south-china-sea-no-doubt http://time.com/4657665/steve-bannon-donald-trump/ As Chief Strategist in the White House Bannon is way more dangerous than Trump. Bannon has something Trump doesn't....a brain (graduated from Harvard with Masters degree). Former exec. chair of far right Breitbart he's also a rabid Islamaphobe, racist anti-semite which should make *some* people feel extremely uncomfortable and give cause for concern. http://www.timesofisrael.com/stephen-bannon-5-things-jews-need-to-know/ http://heatst.com/politics/how-stephen-bannon-promoted-racists-and-anti-semites-to-the-front-of-american-politics/ http://www.salon.com/2016/11/14/steve-bannon-runs-an-anti-semitic-website-is-a-misogynist-and-will-be-one-of-donald-trumps-senior-advisors/ https://theintercept.com/2016/11/16/steve-bannon-made-breitbart-space-pro-israel-writers-anti-semitic-readers/

Geeco
pelmetman - 2017-02-03 3:48 AMSeems a pointless exercise to me?.......Why swap refugees?........They seem safe enough on the island, so let they stay there until they think its safe enough to return home ;-) .....Or are they really just economic migrants dressed up as refugees *-) ........Dave, the PNG Government want the Manus Island detention camp closed down. Some of the refugees have been previously identified as economic migrants. It is normal for these people to dump their ID at sea to delay the processing system. That is the major reason why they are still there after two years in some cases. Both sides of politics here has failed to find a solution to an extremely difficult situation. My own opinion on the desire to swap detainees with the US is as previously stated to send a strong message to the people smugglers mainly based in Indonesia that refugees will not be allowed in by the back door. The swap idea was an attempt to placate both sides of the debate, however it looks like it has gone sour. The papers here today are now heavily reporting on the leaked info re the phone call between Turnbull & Trump. Remember we are a long way from everywhere here ( except NZ) and it does take a while for the bush telegraph to wake up. Interesting times ahead.
