denkate
Hi All, I have a 2016 Chausson 628eb with a Status 570 aerial on the roof, in August last year I was in France and could not get any channels on my TV (Technika HD Ready ), I have found out that they switched over to HD. Could it be the new aerial, I can get TV channels in England. I am now going to buy a new TV But which one do I get, I text Cello and they told me they would not work in France. Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Many Thanks Dennis.
sandalwood
Avtex tv very good and their customer service really good. However, if you have Apple iPad, download film on app and watch all British tv live and free! We did this when out to had problems. Buffers a bit if SI fi not too good, but still watchable. Re Avtex, my volume sent and they told me to go on 93.5 on radio and hey presto, surround sound. Hope you get sorted App is filmon ! tonyg3nwl
Hi, I wonder if your tv is capable of, and is fitted with the relevant viewing card. I beleive that most tv in france has relatively recently gone away from "free to view", so if you havent bought the relevant viewing card, your tv wont decode the signals. Which channels do you wish to view..satellite or terrestial. If you want to watch uk satellite tv, then you will need a suitable dish, aimed at Astra 2 together with a suitable satellite receiving converter, , and of course if Sky is your poison, then technically you are limited to uk viewing only. There are other boxes available to use, such as ICECRYPT, and SILVERCREST, which can be purchased from, for example, Maplin, , and can receive both free to air, and in the case of Icecrypt box, can be fitted with an extra decoding card.. Dish size of at least 80cm shoul be ok for most of France to get Astra 2,. We have an older Avtex tv, coupled to a silvercrest convertor, and an 80 cm motorised dish enabling me to watch Astra 2, Astra1, And Hotbird satellites, which I use in conjunction with my Amateur radio hobby, at home, but only the Free to air channels. PJay
We have no problem getting TV in France and Spain, BUT we have a satellite dome. So don't think it your TV, most likely your Ariel . Need Satellite With a SAT, you can always get the German/Dutch channels, which is what we do, for the F1 races. PJay
Robbo
The Cello TV has HD so you should be able to receive terrestrial TV in France (in French). The following thread and post by pelmetman indicates that the Cello TV will receive terrestrial TV in Europe: http://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Cello-TVs/46219/
campervanista
Hi, During the course of our spring trip to France last year we were watching french terrestrial TV, when the announcer reminded viewers that the switchover to HD would take place the following day. Thereafter without a decodeur TNT ("television numerique terrestre", sorry don't know how to get accents on UK keyboard!) one would have a blank screen. "Hen's teeth" would accurately describe the supply situation of said device. Towards the end of our trip we did find one for about 40 euros, we also needed an HDMI cable to connect, 5 euros. This worked fine with our Avtex set. The big drawback was that the decoder needed 240 volts so we were only able to use it on EHU. We normally never go near a campsite if we can avoid it so we did not do much viewing. Sadly, even the far reaches of Madame's handbag could not provide an inverter! :-( We now take an inverter along with us, but it is all rather messy with all the connexions one has to make, and we only bother if there is something we particularly want to watch. I believe decoders are available which work off 12 volts, but have not been across the channel of late, obviously first port of call would be a camping car accessory shop, if you want to watch french TV. Happy travels to all. Ron Pharo.
mildi
In France the change was that they only broadcast in HD so if you buy a TV that has a HD freeview tuner you will be able to get terrestrial TV in France. I have an Avtex with just a standard tuner and that will not work now we live in France The confusion is when they sell HD TVs this normally refers to the screen. Just check that it has Freeview HD tuner you will be OK and no need to change the aerial. Hope that helps.
