Time to reel in the lawyering trade?.......

Cost of their fees is only part of it. It sucks the best brains away from productive industry. (The brightest kid in my class at school became a lawyer) And it drowns productive industry in red tape because everyone is scared of being sued if they dare start up an industry at all.

But too many vested interests in Parliament to change it. The Prime Minister enjoys the privelege of appointing judges under the royal prerogative granted to her by Her Uneected Majesty the Queen - so the Prime Minister supports the Queen in return.

BBC 'Watchdog' like programmes will investigate working men like Builders and Car mechanics. But when did they last investigate lawyers *-)

Shiner's mistake was to take on Her Unelected Majesty's Armed Forces. Those who stick to softer targets get away with it.

All well and good, but. If you were suffering an injustice at someone's hand, to whom would you turn for redress? You may not like them, but we all need them, in various ways, at various times. In the final analysis, they, in conjunction with the judiciary, are our final protection against tyranny.

Justice? what's justice got to do with it?.......Would you call a system where those who usually win are the ones able to afford a better lawyer.......... would you call that system fair? :-| ......

Without Lawyers we'd have no due process and God help anyone finding themselves in the dock facing serious jail time on a string of trumped up charges. Until any of us have experienced that, it's all too easy to play armchair critic.

As with many professions there will always be a few bad ones and even less utterly evil and corrupt. The majority being decent people.

Channel 4 news has been investigating such a QC, John Smyth, who used (abused) the 'cover' of the Anglican church to carry out physical beatings to young men.

I didn't mention justice, only injustice. What I said is that they give us final protection against tyranny. So, what's your alternative system?

Mr Glover is right to raise issues that have serious consequences for the enjoyment of our rights under the law and which may rightfully be the subject of a thorough inquiry into the legal profession and the judiciary. I have a concern however in that there may be few people who would read the entire report produced by any such inquiry. Many people appear to be inclined to rely on the usual selective reporting of such inquiries as produced by Daily Mail.
