daviddwight
Going to Germany in May, looking at getting the emission sticker I thought it was about £10 but on the Website it says 31euro is this correct, and it dos not say if you have to send registration doc or a copy, the other alternative is to stay out of zones. Keithl
Hi David, Make sure you are on the 'Official' website! There are a lot of Scam websites offering to get the sticker for you for a lot more money! But sorry I don't have a link to the Official one :-( Keith. Robinhood
David, if you wish to buy in advance, use: https://www.berlin.de/labo/mobilitaet/kfz-zulassung/feinstaubplakette/shop.86595.en.php This is the Berlin State site, and they will efficiently despatch you one for €6. They can be bought face-to-face in Germany at various garages and TuV locations, but these are also likely to cost you no less than €5, so an advance purchase is probably worth it for the convenience. In reality, it is probably now only worth applying if you can get a "green" sticker, given the number of locations that will accept nothing lower. AlanS
I know it is slightly digressing but we intend to go to Venice this May / June using the route in the following thread http://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Non-Motorway-Dunkirk-to-Italy-/41377/ Do yo think we would need to get an Emission sticker or not - we hope to be just overnighting whilst in Germany on either sites or Stellplatz ? I suppose that for the 6 Euro cost it would be wise to obtain one but having just applied for the French one we don't really want a 'windscreen full of stickers'. Robinhood
..If it were me, I'd get one given the cost (well I have!). On a wholly practical note, however, you would be quite unlucky to encounter a zone unless you intend to enter a major conurbation - the major transit routes are generally exempt, and the only enforcement is manual, with relatively low penalties compared with, say, London. If you encounter a zone, simply turn round when you can and exit - there are no cameras to catch you.
Bulletguy
Driven throughout Germany for years and never been in any emission zone. Even cities such as Berlin is far less restrictive than London and this map gives you an idea; http://urbanaccessregulations.eu/countries-mainmenu-147/germany-mainmenu-61/berlin The actual zone is only a small area and to be honest, in somewhere like Berlin you will see much more by using the S-bahn and walking a bit here and there. There is a list here of all zones; http://urbanaccessregulations.eu/countries-mainmenu-147/germany-mainmenu-
hallii
If you get one it is best not stuck on your windscreen, use a bit of Perspex or something. I don't know what they use for glue but it really, really sticks. H
Robinhood
...if you follow Bulletguy's link: http://urbanaccessregulations.eu/countries-mainmenu-147/germany-mainmenu-61 ...and select, say, Freiburg, you can see the potential impact. Whilst it is possible to traverse Freiburg via designated main routes, any digression from these is likely to take you into a "zone". The main Stellplatz in Freiburg is very close to the centre, and an excellent stopover for a city visit (being walkable to the Altstadt), but it is within the zone. You pays you (not very much) money and you takes your choice.

Never found them a distraction. It's an example London would do well to follow with their LEZ where the charges and/or fines are horrendously punitive. Information is also very poor. The zone was extended further out a few years back taking in the area my son and wife live. They never even knew about it until the signs and cameras went up! Last year came into Freiburg coming up from Switzerland and soon found I had entered the Zone, on the motorway, on my way to the ACSI card campsite in the City. I had no sticker as I had not been able to find an outlet to purchase one. However the site owner said it was no worry as they are pretty lenient and gave me directions to the City Council office, same building as the Tourist Information office, which was a 15 min normal walk on flat ground and where I was able to purchase one over the counter for 5 Euro. Brian Kirby
All true, but for the €5 involved, and to escape the hassle of getting one locally after the event, surely easier to go forearmed? The sticker is only about the size of the now defunct UK tax disc, and should be mounted low on the right hand (from the driving seat) edge of the windscreen, so not really liable to obstruct vision.
