sandalwood
Hi. Has anyone gone in large motorhome to the Rhone Alps, in particular Annecy. We have 3 weeks and wondering what to see and where to go. It's a long drive to Annecy and wonder if 3 weeks too long in the area?
StuartO
We took our 7 m motorhome towing a 6 m trailer to Annecy a few years ago without difficulty and stayed on the municipl Belvidere campsite, which is close to Annecy town and was very pleasant. Nice downhill walk into town but a steep climb back up - my hip was playing up so we used taxis for the return journey. The Aires around Annecy are cheek-by-jowl, if you can get in, and I wouldn't bother. Lovely area, plenty to do. We'll be going again.
Derek Uzzell
Unless your motorhome has warp-drive, I’d expect you to need 2 days for the Cherbourg to Annecy journey, meaning that 4 days of your 3 week-trip will be used up just getting there and back. This 2015 forum thread mentions Annecy http://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Annecy-Day-10-24-of-44/38469/ I was in the area a few years ago (though not in a motorhome) but it’s difficult to comment on whether a fortnight or so there would be mind-numbingly boring for you without knowing what your interests are. Suggest you look through some of the information here https://www.google.co.uk/?gws_rd=ssl#q=annecy+france+points+of+interest https://www.google.co.uk/?gws_rd=ssl#q=things+to+do+in+annecy+in+the+rain
Caddies104
Hi We go to Annecy most years and stay for around 3 weeks and always regret having to leave.. There is plenty to see and do around the area, even driving to Chamonix and going up Mont Blanc is an experience. Just sitting in the town of Annecy and admiring the views is superb.. There a loads of campsites down the west side of the lake, using Acsi or camping cheques. Although we rarely use tolls, we always pick up the A40 toll just south of Bourg-en-Bresse and come off at the turn to Frangy then head into Annecy, doesn't cost much, but the alternative is winding mountainous roads.. There again in June staying near Doussard where you can see lots of Paragliders :-) Ps.. My Avatar is of the campsite in Annecy
