StuartO
I'm doing a wiring adaptation and need to splice into a handy earth return cable. Manufacturers tend to have a convention for their wiring colour codes across all their range and Fiat will doubtless do the same. Does anyone have a copy of the Fiat colour coding system for cabling or alternatively know which colour of cable is used for earth (battery negative) return runs? Charles
I wouldn't risk using an unknown cable, even if you meter it and it shows earth it still May go through something first. I've always crimped a ring onto the cable and Tech screwed it to the chassis underneath. Then a blob of grease on the screw.
AlanS
If it is the Fiat Cab then they use black as the negative and this runs through to the chassis and the rear light clusters, but for the habitation area Sargent (AutoTrail, etc.) use white / orange stripe for the negative. Alan Thanks. I think black cable is used for an earth return too, so that's useful confirmation.
monique.hubrechtsgm
There is not a real earth in a car. But the chassis acts like one be sure there a good galvanic contact. Or use a ohm merger. At your house you have a earth pole in the ground. In case of three Phase you have a return to transformer house outside your house. Your power station supply power cables but their is not a earth cable. The future will be a mix of 12 volt and 48 volt in motorhomes as now already in cars.
