Archiesgrandad
OK we now have a pretty good idea about what everyone thinks about Brexit, Trump, Gina Wotnot, Islam, Foriegners and so on, and this forum is getting a bit tedious and not enjoyable. Isn't there anything else that we might discuss without all the tired old cliche's, and no doubt deeply held prejudices that seem to dominate this forum at the moment. I don't think I could cope with a discussion on who might win The Voice, or any of those inane programmes, and I really don't mind who will win the FA Cup. I'm not that fussed about the 6 Nations as long as England get the Grand Slam, but wouldn't it be nice to have an interchange of ideas that don't provoke such bile. I've been sitting here trying to think of something interesting, but it's not going well, so does anyone else have any ideas? AGD
Bulletguy
Weather.......rising prices......falling pound.......high street businesses closing down......unemployment? The cost of my weekly shop has certainly gone up just as fuel has too. Happy days. *-)
Guest pelmetman
Nice weather here B-) ....... Just paid 10 quid for a glass of Cava, followed by Langoustine cocktail, followed by steak and chips with a pepper sauce, followed by crepe, followed by coffees and including half a litre of vino tinto.......It was hard work but I managed to eat and drink it all :D ....... Fuels almost a pound a litre, and a refill of our 11kg gas bottle is nearly 9 quid......I dunno how I manage on Sue's pensions, back in the UK we'd be below the poverty line 8-) ....... Its just as well a decent bottle of Rioja in Lidel is less than £1.50 :D ........ BTW how's storm Doris? :-> ........
laimeduck
How about the vagaries of the English language? Two examples here but there will be loads of others............-

Some of us are booked to head south in May for the summer as although I know the weather is better than the Uk at the moment, to my mind 17 degrees in Spain is cold. Once it climbs above 25 then things are fine. I admit we sat and shall I say 'scorned' the various retirees on our site as they packed up to go home for the school holidays and said 'Fools' etc. Of course now we are once again in the ranks of grandparents we have jopined the 'club'. Playing with a 2 year old does makle a difference any time of the year. Planning a long trip away against seeing the little blighters takes a balancing act which we have not mastered. However, as they are palnning tofly out to join us for a week in June, we will enjoy it all the same. Actually things are not that bad here as long as you ignore the TV and newspapers. The coffee shops inn Edinburgh are still full and as the tourists have more or less disappeared things are very pleasant. Of course if you live in England there is a good chance you will return to some form of summer, up here it is very hit and miss, so we head south. Mind you if Burnie and her crew get independence an awful lot of us will be climbing back over the wall. Anyway, stop making us all jealous cheers By the way how do you get a langousitne in a cocktail? Where do the clws and tail go?

Easy........Pelmet goes to Brit pubs where they flog 'em defrosted prawns on a lettuce leaf. Chavs think they're Langoustines ('cuz it sez so on th' menu) but they wouldn't know the difference between a Dublin Bay prawn or Norwegian lobster. ;-)
pkc
Perhaps a relevant topic might be how to prevent threads developing into page after page of increasingly acrimonious Twitter style one or two line heckling of the original poster. These comments are often tagged onto the end of a page of earlier posts so that you begin to feel like the town cryer reading from a never ending scroll. I will resist the temptation to lay out my own preference for a way to solve the problem in case I am accused of trying to become a self elected moderator. But if I could suggest a couple of possibilities for consideration ? 1. It seems to be a badge of honour to post the largest number of posts to gain the most prestigious title, such as Stalwart, Pillock of the forum etc. Perhaps after a certain number of posts in a given time the titles should become less and less flattering such as ; Oh God not him again, or Jeeze does this guy not sleep? 2. If the offending poster does not amend their behaviour perhaps they should be tracked down, caught and beaten to death with a rolled up copy of the MMM? Just a suggestion mind. I can't wait to hear yours. Cheers. (^) Edited to say this is not aimed at the last poster, or any one forum member. ;-)
