GAP insurance & Glasses guide

Hi all,

Has anyone sucessfully taken out GAP insurance on their motorhome? I have tried several companies and they say they are unable to provide cover as the motorhome (Frankia) is not listed in the Glasses guide and so there is no agreed value. It appears there are quite a few other manufactures not listed in the guide (mainly continental makes). This is not just one specific model - apparently, there are no Frankias, Deffleffs, Burstners etc. listed.

I had no problems with normal insurance for the motorhome.

Are you aware of any companies that will cover this type of motorhome?

IMO GAP insurance is the new PPI !!!

My view is to make sure your insurance policy covers new for old replacement in the first 2 or 3 years or however long you think you need and then forget GAP policies. Others may say I am wrong but that is my view.

Keith.

PS And welcome to the forum :)

I agree. Never had GAP insurance on any vehicle. It normally works out cheaper to insure new for old replacement than pay for a GAP insurance policy.

An interesting thread, and yes, in my view this is a possible rip-off much of the time.

Interestingly ,I have a new MH on order, and with the original confirmation, received a document from the dealers which as far as I could work out was offering this and possibly other insurances. I did not take it up, and although requested in the letter to sign and return such document, I ignored it.

The dealers have now circularised saying they are no longer offering such policies....!!

While I agree that GAP insurance may not suit everyone's situation and I would certainly not recommend arranging it through the dealer, in my case it has its advantages.

My insurance has new for old for up to 3 years but with a limit of 15,000 miles. If you plan to exceed this (5,000 a year is not that high IMO) then gap insurance I think is worthwhile considering (I don't fancy the idea of losing maybe £20K or so if my Frankia was to get written off after 18 months with only 15,001 miles on the clock!)

Are there any companies out there that will provide Gap insurance for motorhomes not listed in Glasses guide?
