laimeduck
We will be going down from Romney Marsh to Shepton Mallett towards the end of March to have some lowered seat bases fitted to our Benima. Then on down to relatives in Truro We want to stop overnight near Shepton Mallett, but are not members of any UK camping organisations. Anyone know of any half decent sites in the Shepton Mallett locality please? We will preferably need a hardstanding, EHU and a food pub (in that order!) pepe63xnotuse
Hi Jeremy A little bit away from Shepton mallet but we've used The Isle of Avalon in Glastonbury a fair few times. http://www.avaloncaravanpark.co.uk/ ..it's a decent site, with good, clean, warm showers/loos etc (and it's not as "hippy" as it sounds!) and it's only a 10 minute stroll from the town (passing a great chippy- Knight's.(you can sit-in through the back, where they have a big inglenook fire place, They also serve proper local cider). There's also Old Oaks on the other edge of Glastonbury http://www.theoldoaks.co.uk/ (never been there though). We've also used a basic little pub site down from Shepton' near Castle Carey, called The Brook House Inn http://www.brookhouseinn-touringpark.co.uk/ But I think that is all grass?..and it is sat by itself, with no pavements (but it is a country pub that does food... ;-) )
paulmold
Stayed at Batcombe Vale site near Evercreech some years ago. It was great especially if you want a longer stay and you're into fishing, it has three fishing ponds.
laimeduck
Pepe & Paul Many thanks! The Batcombe Vale site is not open until April, but the others look ideal - especially the Brookhouse Inn if it's dry enough to take our 3850Kg Benima. Watch this space.... pepe63xnotuse
Hi again.. If you do look to use 'Brook House, as daft as it may sound, just check the opening hours of the pub (and if they'll be doing food?), on the day(s) & time(s) you'll be there... We've used it several times but only for the night before we rolled onto Glastonbury festival site ..but even then (when it's had several Mhs/campervans/caravans on it) the pub has sometimes shut for several hours in the afternoon... So, forewarned, is forearmed and all that... :-D

We actually went to Ashcombe Farm. (http://www.ashcombefarmcaravanandcamping.co.uk/)The Apple Tree Inn was opposite the site. Both average I'd say - wouldn't go back to either. pepe63xnotuse
Hi.. Glad you at least found somewhere that was of some use... Re: 'Brook House Inn. Even if it was "dry" ,I don't think we'd opt to use it (over 'Avalon etc ) other than for when we needed a "stop-over" the correct side of the festival site (for us join the queue to the East campervan fields.) As it, both the 'site and the pub, was a bit tired last time we stayed (but they were supposedly sprucing it up?)
