StuartO
My Hymer has rubber strips around the top of the wheel arch mouldings, to cover up the fixing screws and with age these harden and make it impractical to pull then aside the access the screws. I was once told by a rubber expert (from a tyre company!) that vulcanised rubber continues to vulcanise during its life and this causes hardening - is that what's going on here? I feel sure that some of my fellow contributors will have discovered a way to soften them any ideas? I'm sure my wife will have something in her make up cupboard which would serve but I'm reluctant to dive in there flying blind!
mikejkay
Rubber O rings can be kept flexible and supple by massaging them with silicon grease. Dont know how you would do this with a wheel arch trim though, unless you can get the trim off.
Robbo
Stuart Gummi Pflege is supposed to be good for reviving rubber. See here and other products: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gummi-Pflege-Rubber-Stick-100ml/dp/B007TNOQDI I had a 2002 Hymer and the sealing strip between bodywork and rear bumper was made of a flexible plastic material, as far as I remember. Will86
My two pennyworth is that rubber (the modern stuff) is not returnable to its former self. Its a manufactured material and has a limited life.

laimeduck
My 30 yr old 2CV again ...... Castor oil is injected into the suspension cylinders to protect the rubber seals & keep them supple. Just don't swallow it unless you want to sit down for some length of time!
