Does anyone know or have experiences of the Valance on a Bessacarr 454 falling off the van, on the 454 it has a Sun visor, just below that (and above the windscreen) is where the valance is located, its approx 6ft x 2ft

Appreciate feedback.

Welcome to the Out&AboutLive forums, Melanie.

I notice that there is a DVSA ‘recall’ notice about this, and the link below refers:

You’ll see that the notice applies to quite a few Swift and Bessacarr models (not just the 454) that were built from 14 July 2014 to 10 June 2015, and owners of affected motorhomes should have the sunroof valance panel checked.

(I’m not exactly sure what the valance panel is, but I’ve attached a photo looking towards the front of a 2015 454’s interior for reference purposes. I assume you own a 454 and will know which piece may fall off.)

Who is this Brian then?

If you use this link

https://www.swiftgroup.co.uk/motorhomes/bessacarr

scroll down to the “Take a look inside” section, click on the 360-degree picture and then click on the symbol on the big roof-window (Opening sunroof) an image of the sunroof in its open position will appear.

Between the front of the sunroof and the top of the windscreen is a dark-tinted plastic panel with “BESSACARR” on it and I’m pretty sure this panel is the ‘valance’ that may become detached when the motorhome is being driven. (I’ve attached a photo of an E454 that shows the panel.)

Assuming that this is the item that may come off, if I had written the DVSA recall notice it would have said

"SUNROOF TRIM-PANEL MAY DETACH

Description : The exterior dark-tinted plastic trim-panel between the sunroof and windscreen may not have been fitted correctly during the manufacturing process. It is possible that this trim-panel may detach whilst the vehicle is being driven.”

Historically, the word “valance” was used for a skirt below a bed-frame or for decorative material above a window, but it’s also used for trim-panels beneath vehicle bumpers.

I would not have used the word for the panel in front of the sunroof, but I’m picky about things like that. ;-)
