i think the Spanish have seen the trend that more people are deserting France (even the French) for cheaper cost of living in Spain compared to France. Safer from terrorist?? and the weather is warmer.

We noticed a couple of years ago, how the French , Belgians and the Dutch and even the Germans, had increased in numbers in Spain

Lets hope they do make more camper stops, as they will help the economy of Spain. They did start to stop wild camping in places, which in some cases looked like tips, when vacated

These "wild" places usually get trashed by the French when asked to leave as they are not used to being told what to do and get very annoyed, they are use to plenty of free aires in France. The Germans will argue mildly with usually the Guardia and then go. The Dutch are unpredictable and the Brits just go. I'm in Andalucia at present and have watched people come and go and 95% of the rubbish is left by...... The Spanish themselves. A family and dog just pulled out and there is some broken discarded toys, tissues and a full dog dirt bag that they ran over on their way out. There are to Aires in Palamos (what's my name) one on the La Fosca road and one up a hill behind the Esclat supermarket with petrol station on the Palamos by- pass near St Antoni de Calonge. There is another just up the road in Playa D'Aro which is free and not very nice and another free one in St Feliu de Guixols nr the bus station and a nice town to visit. The French, Germans and Dutch have been heading down into Spain for years in the winter although there are more French about recently due to the fear of trouble in Morocco and North Africa in General which is where they use to head.

Free camping in Spain is alive and well, we continue to enjoy it. What we have always said is that the "authorities" should provide/allow some, minimum facilities for motorhomes and charge to use them. The caveat is that they must be located in the right places, that motorhomers want to be, at the right price and they will be well used. Even by us!

Maybe the "euro" has finally dropped with the Spanish.

" located in the right place" is going a bit far, you will go where you are told! Just like the one, around Palamos. 2 km up a hill out of town and one has a sea view if you get a space in the top half all be it a good distance from the sea. Oh and the one in Playa D'Aro is closed from the end of March to September??????and you'll have great difficulty explaining the word "caveat" :-). There is to much money diverted by corruption any real change. As the Spanish will tell you, we are a lazy people, we have the sun and we sell it to you. Ref. Josep Riba, Palamos. Go and see him Marvin He own's the ElCastellet bar on the old town front. A great guy and good friend.

As fit young things we like a good walk 2km is nothing, uphill is good. Seriously, Camping Palamos , as an example is ideally placed, 10 mins ish walk from Calle Major. If "sites" targeted at motorhomers are not in the right location they will not be well used and will likely close. The Spanish may be lazy, but so am I, but not as lazy as the French and also in my view much cleaner.

Had a beer and a cup of crisps at your pals bar recently.

We stayed at a really good Camper stop just outside Betera a couple of months ago, very handy for catching the train into Valencia. The site had full facilities, an excellent restaurant & bar, free Wifi and only 13E per night. This was the first time we had stayed at a camperstop and were really impressed.

keninpalamos - 2017-04-26 5:30 due to the fear of trouble in Morocco and North Africa in General .

To what are you referring Ken? (we are planning our first foray into Morocco this Xmas).

the French have always been keen on Morocco for winter sun as it used to be a French protectorate and French is spoken. Sines the terrorist attacks in Paris and around France in the name of religion the French decided to stay away from Morocco it being an Islamic Country in fear of the obvious and who can blame them. You should be vigilant at all times. The Moroccan authorities have warned of an increased threat linked to the growing number of Moroccans sympathetic or belonging to Daesh (formerly referred to as ISIL) and other extremist groups, and regularly report the disruption of terrorist cells, some of which have intended to carry out attacks in Morocco against government installations, public spaces and tourist sites. In late January 2017, the Moroccan authorities reported the disruption of a terrorist cell and the arrest of several of its members the coastal town of El Jadida. The cell was operating in several cities and aiming to produce explosive devices to attack political and public figures, diplomatic premises and tourist sites in Morocco.Attacks could be indiscriminate and could target foreigners. In April 2011, 17 people were killed and 25 injured in a large explosion caused by a bomb in Marrakech at the Argana Restaurant in Djema el-Fna Square.Protective security measures, including security personnel, may be visible in certain areas including hotels and sites popular with tourists. There’s considered to be a heightened threat of terrorist attack globally against UK interests and British nationals, from groups or individuals motivated by the conflict in Iraq and Syria. JeffersonCampervan - 2017-04-27 1:36 PMThanks Ken...
Are you still going? Of course you are, you're Canadian.

Yep, still going, just like we've traveled through Mexico with similar warnings. I do appreciate Ken's measured and non-sensationalized answer, though.

I'm sure you'll be fine, I've been several times. "Wild" camping or parking and on sites. A really interesting place and great fun.
