Fitting a Multifunctional steering wheel in 2015 Ducato

I have just had a Pioneer Avic F88Dab unit fitted in my 2015 Hymer Exsis i588, to provide link up to twin reversing cameras, sat nav, dab radio and an unreal music system....Fantastic.

I then decided to fit a Multifunctional Ducato steering wheel to provide hands free telephone and music control links to the Pioneer.

All went well with the airbag and steering wheel removal, and the replacement steering wheel dropped in place perfectly. However, I am at a loss how to wire the buttons to the clock spring which sits behind the steering wheel.

There are 6 terminals coming from the clock spring, two are used for the horn, the other two are for the airbag, which leaves only two further terminals to feed buttons on the left and right side of the wheel, I am pretty certain I need 4 ?

This begs the question, is a different clock spring fitted when a Ducato Multifunction steering wheel is spec'd on a new Fiat Ducato, and if so, what is the part number.

If there is any wizzo out there that knows the answer, name your charity and I will make a nice donation and send you the receipt.

Always remember: 'Where there's a will there's a way', and sometimes a grateful widow !!!!!

I suspect that Nick Fisher (euroserv) will be the only forum-member likely to be able to answer your very specific question about the clock-spring/part-number. Otherwise, you might need to throw yourself on the tender mercy of a friendly Fiat Professional agent.

Nick has mentioned in the past that, if a Ducato X290’s original non-LED headlamps are replaced with the LED variety, a warning will be prduced due to the original headlamp specification being ‘burned’ into the vehicle’s ECU. Similarly with front fog-lamps - if they are not part of an X290’s original specification, retro-fitting the fog-lamps and connecting them to the vehicle’s wiring won’t result in them working as their presence is not registered in the ECU. So even if a different spring is used when a multifunction steering-wheel is fitted, there’s no guarantee that fitting that spring to your LHD Hymer will result in the replacement wheel’s extra functions becoming operational.

If Nick can’t provide an answer, you might try asking on the Fiat Forum, as I notice that similar questions have been asked there before
