I have a 800 watt inverter permanantly wired to my second house battery.with a 80 amp trip switch from maplin in the + wire.keep the wiring as short as possible and crimp eye terminals at the battery end.use the trip switch to turn off power when the unit is not being used.(It will also trip if there is a problem)I can then use a 500 watt 220v kettle when on the ferry, whether I have shore power or not.(No gas allowed)

Good advice from Bryan above. I would add that you should mount the inverter in a well ventilated dry place close to the leisure battery and if possible with the cooling fins running vertically. If it has a fan the the mounting attitude is not so important.
