hammer
Hi, does anyone have any recommendations for an aeriated shower head? Looking for something that will help reduce water consumption but quite lightweight. Have seen this one: http://www.ecocamel.com/product/32-jetstorm just looking for real life reviews Thanks
BKen1
Dont shower in the van as you would at home if want to save water ..we wet ourselves first then turn off lather up and then rinse off ....at £40 for a shower head and hose seems a bit steep . Brock
We save water by doing the same as BKen1. It's commonly known as having a sailor's shower. Not sure why, but we always feel more refreshed after one than we do after a shower at home or when using a site's facilities. The van doesn't steam up as much. I haven't answered your first question, hammer.
mgnbuk
Yes, got one a couple of years ago. Just got the head & attached it ot the original van hose. I find it gives both a stronger, more invigorating, jet that seems to wet you more thoroughly while using less water. On my last van, with a 100 litre fresh water tank, I easily managed 4 days (two showers a day, tea & coffee making & washing up) between refills on several occasions. Current van has a 120 litre tank & did 6 days (showers & drinks only - washed up on site) between fills this year. Neither was empty at the point of refill, but the low level warning had illuminated on both. Seems pricy for a shower head, but I think it was a worthwhile upgrade. Tried the "mains pressure" variants at home & couldn't get them to work as well as the van unit - no quibble money back & they paid the return postage. Derek Uzzell
I referred to the “Ecocamel” shower-head in these two earlier forum threads http://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Lack-hoter-water-TRUMA/40720/ http://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Auto-trail-Delaware-shower/41882/ If you use the on/off showering technique employed by BKen1 and Brock (and me) you’ll loathe the Ecocamel product. If you shower with the water running continuously you might like the water+air effect but, logically, this technique is bound to use more water than a ‘sailor’s shower’ (Wikipedia entry below) employing a shower-head that limits the amount of water that can pass through it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Navy_shower
mgnbuk
"If the on/off showering technique is as used by BKen1 and Brock (and me) you’ll loathe the Ecocamel product." We use the "Sailor's Shower" technique withe Eco Camel head with no problems - the only difference I notice is the "dribble" from the Eco Camel air inlet as the head drains when the water is shut off. AndyLou
We have one of those shower heads not exactly sure of the make. We picked it up at one of the shows with extra beads for about £25. Works great with a sailor.
PJM
It's called a sailor's shower because invariably ships used to impose water rationing when the evaporators were playing up. It obviously saves water but still allows you to "socialise" without causing offence. For those who may not know evaporators are used to distill fresh water from sea water. starvin marvin
On this theme, isn't a wash down with a flannel called a tarts bath, well that's what we call it.
Gram
A washdown with a bucket of water and a flannel - that's a Bird Bath. The next best thing to a Sailor's Shower when onboard fresh water is very scarce. G
Derek Uzzell
mgnbuk - 2017-08-18 2:15 PM "If the on/off showering technique is as used by BKen1 and Brock (and me) you’ll loathe the Ecocamel product." We use the "Sailor's Shower" technique withe Eco Camel head with no problems - the only difference I notice is the "dribble" from the Eco Camel air inlet as the head drains when the water is shut off. Nigel B It’s the ‘dribbling’ that’s the root cause of the problem for us. The 1st attached photo is of the shower arrangement (with Ecocamel shower-head) fitted as standard to a 2015 Rapido 640F like ours. Control of the water’s temperature and flow-rate is via a monolever tap that has a very easy action. If showering has commenced and the tap is closed, the Ecocamel shower-head empties through its air-inlet. When the tap is subsequently opened, the Ecocamel shower-head needs to refill and, with our Rapido, the temperature of the water that immediately emerges is cold. If one waited for a few seconds, the water’s temperature would stabilise to what it was before the tap was closed, but being suddenly dowsed with a burst of cold water ain’t no fun (as my wife was very keen to emphasise!) I tried to address this by fitting an Ecocamel shut-off valve https://www.ecocamel.com/shut-off-valve/product?product_id=814 as this would retain pressure in the shower-hose and avoid closing the tap. This proved ineffective - if the Ecocamel shower-head emptied, a burst of cold water would always emerge from the shower-head as it refilled. As I’ve said before, the solution was to replace the Ecocamel shower-head with a simple stick type that does nor self-empty (example here) http://www.screwfix.com/p/watersmith-heritage-rock-shower-handset-fixed-chrome-30-x-220mm/4342p There’s nothing magic about the shower-head being a ‘stick’ - it’s the fact that it does not drain that’s important with the Rapido’s shower. There’s no doubt that less water passes through the stick shower-head than through the Ecocamel head when the shower’s tap is fully open (I’ve tested this) which is exactly what one would expect when the two designs are compared. Admittedly the stick head provides a less ‘sensual' showering experience than the Ecocamel head does, but the stick is less bulky, is a much tidier fit in the shower-head holder and, most importantly, prevents marital disharmony chez Uzzell. For what it’s worth, I notice that - prior to switching to the Ecocamel product - Rapido apparently fitted a ‘stck’ type shower-head to their motorhomes (2nd photo relates to 2008 992M model). Derek Uzzell
Marketed on-line at various prices (example here) http://tinyurl.com/y9f8fkok I believe a version is available from Ann Summers shops with the beads made from compressed pumpkin seeds (a natural aphrodisiac). Not advised for elderly motorcaravanners, of course...
