Guest Frank Wilkinson Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 This morning both my and my wife's cellphones rang just once (at different times of course). I would normally think that someone was trying to contact me and often, out of curiousity, would phone back to see who was calling. The fact the both phones were called also suggested that it was someone that we both knew.I was a suspicious though and typed the first four digits (0709) into Google. It turns out that this is a well known scam. A computerised programme calls thousands of randomly generated numbers and rings them just once. Many people are tempted to phone back but if they do it is of course a premium phone line that ends up costing them pounds. You have been warned - do not respond to any 0709 numbers or any similar ones that contact your mobile phones.
empress Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 Thank you, Frank, for the warning! Regards, Empress
mark lambert Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 Thanks for that tip something along the same lines so to speak. I've noticed that when telesales people call there is a short pause before they speak, as soon as you pick up the phone and there is a silence just hang-up, their computer dial-up just goes to the next number. I've tried the other methods of blocking the calls but they just keep getting through mark
