Uncle Bulgaria
My Ford Transit base vehicle uses a Ford driver's seat, albeit with a good fitted cover. Lately, the seat has started creaking as my weight shifts about on less than flat road surfaces. I suspect a lack of lubrication between the seat frame and the wire mesh that supports the seat's foam base, or between the links in the wire mesh itself. I've tried a silicon based lubricating spray in modest quantities but without significant improvement. I'm reluctant to apply too much in case the spray attacks the foam base of the seat. Can anyone suggest a spray lubricant that might be appropriate to apply to the underside of the seat and the seat frame? I guess this is an odd question but someone may have experienced and solve this before. As always, grateful for any suggestions.
Tracker
That sort of creaking that does not go away can sometimes be traced to metal fatigue and/or a frame or mounting bolts damage fault so before any more lubricant is applied it may be worth a check? paul2
Hi The transits delivery vans I worked on were always cracking the drives seat frame. We welded them some times having to fit new foam and cover if left to long before repair. Paul
Don636
The swivel passenger seat on our Fiat Ducati creaks when going round tight bends. I have had a look underneath and checked the mounting bolts for tightness but can't find anything obviously wrong so no idea how to fix it - anyone else experienced this and of so any suggestions as to how to fix it? I've asked them to strip down the driver's seat base and advise on any frame cracking or other mechanical failure. I'll post the findings on this thread. Uncle Bulgaria
Uncle Bulgaria - 2017-10-20 5:14 PM paul2 - 2017-10-10 7:47 PM Hi The transits delivery vans I worked on were always cracking the drives seat frame. The base vehicle has just had it's annual service, at a Ford specialist Transit, and I promised to let you know what they found when I asked them to check the driver's seat as it was creaking. The found nothing amiss and the vehicle sailed through the MOT. The only suggestion was that it might be due to some degree of compression of the foam base or the source of the creaking might be the seat swivel mechanism, so I may have to live with it. At least it doesn't creak when parked up. Cheers.
