Derek Uzzell
Some estimates are on the following link (John’s motorhome is a 2011 model) https://www.clickmechanic.com/price-estimates/fiat/ducato/timing-belt-or-chain-replacement It should be expected that the cost will vary according to where the task is carried out (eg. London is likely to be more expensive than Ludlow), which parts are used (‘genuine’ Fiat parts are likely to be more expensive than ‘pattern’ parts), which parts are fitted, and who does the work (ie. a Fiat Professional agent may well charge more than an independent garage). Having said that, £640 does sound a lot and it would be wise for John to check what the garage plans to do to justify that price.
Billggski
£350 including new water pump and tensioners. Do them at the same time as a precaution. But that's in the sticks at my local truck garage.
euroserv
The water pump on the 2.3JTD is designed to last the lifetime of the vehicle and unless there are obvious signs that something is amiss, it should be left well alone. It is a much bigger job than you might think and access is extremely difficult. The fuel pump has to be removed and if any of the bolts are problematic it will require the engine to be removed to remedy. I have only ever changed one and it was because the engine was already out. No problems so far and many of our vehicles do 250,000 miles before we move them on. It is vital that the tensioners are changed as they are much more likely to wear than the belt itself. The screw for the adjustable tensioner should also be replaced and this is not normally part of the after-market kits.

onecal
Just as a precaution, replace anything that touches the belt, including water pump as motorhomes do relative low mileages and this in itself can be problematic with bearings etc' than those that are regular in use.Regards
