Aires in France download

The most comprehensive set of POIs for French aires will be on the campingcar-infos website

http://www.campingcar-infos.com/Francais/telechargement.php

This earlier thread refers

http://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Anyone-got-a-Garmin-compatible-Campingcar-Infos-file-they-are-willing-to-send-me/37798/

The campingcar-infos website includes the capability to filter out entries that refer to campsites (that have or don’t have a motorhome servicing point) but I suspect that the POI data will include campsites. This is the penalty of wishing to use the French word “aire” to specifically describe a non-campsite location when a French motorcaravanner will treat the word more generally.

Hi, best book to get would be All the Aires, published by the firm in folkestone.but they dont provide downloadable info.

For download, go to look at Archies LISTS. They cover large areas ov europe so worth finding the website and choosing the relevant area. The lists might be out of date.

I have created my own list over the years, bùt it also is out of date and comes from various sources, .

Best try Archies and accept that there might be some out of date, or get the current book..

Ps Garmin can accept csv format files..

have you email address?

Another vote for camping car infos. You can download the POI for free. There is also an offline version which you can purchase of the entire website. However I found Camper Contact (online version) much better this year as it was easy to use online and with roaming charges gone it wasnt an issue.

I also have all the Aires from CC Infos in my Autoroute software on the laptop so can plot routes offline in the back of the van and they all tie up with whats in the sat nav the next day when we set off.

Cheers guys.....had a look on campingcar-infos site but the link for Garmin version (at page bottom) just takes you to the forum and looked in the most relevant sub sections and find no specific download......eg "Aire download Garmin". Plenty of folk posting about a good car park here or a nice lay by there etc in a village or town.......but no full download link for Garmin.

Am i missing something? :-S

Where the campingcar-infos website is concerned, evidently POIs are downloadable only in ASCII format or in a format suitable for TomTom devices.

The “Téléchargements” link on this webpage

http://www.campingcar-infos.com/Francais/telechargement.php

goes to a forum within which is a thread

http://www.aidecampingcar.com/forum1/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=67033

containing instructions on how to load POIs on to a Garmin sat-nav, but to do this would apparently involve employing the POI Loader application to convert the campingcar-infos data into a Garmin-suitable format.

I notice that this issue has come up here a few times before. This is probably the most recent thread

http://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Anyone-got-a-Garmin-compatible-Campingcar-Infos-file-they-are-willing-to-send-me/37798/

(As I’ve no hands-on experience of loading POIs on to sat-navs, I can’t advise further.)

Cheers Derek.....will look into that further. Must admit i thought locating Aire download sites would be plentiful and simple seeing how many Brits tour France but they are somewhat scant and limited.

i have just been through this process with camaingcar-infos....great data, however, you have to sift out the different types of aires (with or without services, services only, on a mway or not) from the rest (camping on farms etc).

also, you have to do this by country....i cant remember if there is a 'complete' file for all countries...

took me an hour or so but ive got what i wanted....

There are several French websites offering GPS ‘aires’ downloads, but the service is not always free and there’s no guarantee that the data will be complete or up-to-date.

You could look into this one

http://www.i-campingcar.fr/gps.htm

as it may provide a Garmin-ready file.

The campingcar-infos data can only be downloaded by complete individual country - which is OK if (say) one were going to tour around much of France for a long period, but massive overkill if trips were to be limited to a specific part of the country. As bolero boy warns, if only a particular type of ‘aire’ will be of interest, the unwanted entris will need to be filtered out.

Regarding campingcarinfos, the 'Telechargement' link mentioned above works for me; just click on the ASCII icon and it takes you a download page where you can select the countries you want as individual files.

Personally, having holidayed in France twice per year for the past 5 or 6 years and having tried all the myriad POI providers, I now use only those from Campercontact. With their POIs loaded on the satnav (one simple file covering all countries) and their App on a smartphone you really couldn't wish for more or better aire information. With the database, including many photos, being maintained by enthusiasts and updated by users it really is comprehensive and the ability to easily look for aires in your vicinity on a map base and then read reviews and browse photos is just about as good as it can get.

The Téléchargements link I was referring to earlier is the one where the word “Téléchargements” is highlighted in orange within the following paragraph on the relevant campingcar-infos webpage

"Autres sites :

Clicking on the (orange word) link takes one here

http://www.aidecampingcar.com/forum1/telecharge.php

In principle, using Garmin’s POI Loader application to load custom POIs on to a Garmin sat-nav should be straightforward: in practice, the process may prove more challenging

Yes, that's the same page I'm talking about, but rather than clicking on the orange highlighted Telechargements link just click on the ascii icon as arrowed in the picture attached and it will take you directly to a file download page.

Once there, again choose 'ascii' for Garmin to download CSV files in a format that is directly compatible with Poiloader.

Sure, but from what Bulletguy said in his posting of 29 November 2017 3:50 PM, he was clicking on the orange “Téléchargements” link.

Using the procedure you’ve advised will allow the GPS data to be obtained in a file-format acceptable for Garmin’s POI Loader application, but this is not specifically said on the campingcar-infos website.

There is a mention of Garmin on the download webpage in the “Autres sites” paragraph

"Other sites:

For users of Navigon, BlueMedia or Mobile Navigator 4.x, an adapted version can be downloaded from the Aidecampingcar website, as well as versions for GARMIN and MAPSONIC on its Downloads page (Thanks to Lexa).”

but this seems much more likely to confuse owners of Garmin sat-nav owners than help them.

Just another possible option, might be to try France Passion sites, You have to buy the book to get the locations, but overnight stays are free, and some do provide water but not all. They all hope that you might purchase something, be it a meal, or bottle of wine, but no obligation to do so.

I have used them myself, and never found any pressure to indulge.

Sites book cost around 30 pounds, and validity runs from March for 12 months.
