marksrv6
Can anyone explain, I have just finished a VW t5 conversion, the van was in my garage overnight with the van doors closed and when I went into the garage this morning the carbon monoxide detector in the van was reading 114 parts with the alarm sounding. Nothing was switched on apart from a battery charger charging the leisure battery, the leisure battery is under the drivers seat, would this cause the high reading. After opening the van doors the reading quickly returned to normal. Thanks in advance. Mark
Derek Uzzell
Mentioned here http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?370599-does-charging-batteries-set-off-your-CO-alarm The thread includes the (authorative?) statement that "Electrochemical carbon monoxide sensors are cross sensitive to hydrogen...” So if that’s correct, and your VW’s leisure battery was gassing slightly during charging, this could have affected the CO detector. (Your VW’s leisure battery is under a cab-seat - is the battery vented to the vehicle’s exterior?)
lennyhb
Agree with Derek, either a duff battery or faulty charger, the battery has been gassing off.
marksrv6
Hi, thank you for your reply, I will put vent tubes to the outside which should cure it. Mark
monique.hubrechtsgm
Not gassing off in a closed garage.
