Best route across France?

Hi, we are off to Western France for our hols this year and I was wondering if the collectred minds could come up with a route beyond the obvious?

We're going to ST jean de monts (Google earth fans - 46°47’7.79”N 2°1’50.71”W) to a Siblu (read Butlins type) place, and then down to Toulon on the Med for a further week.

The only fixed travel point is the Eurotunnel (07:20 train). My thoughts were to go from Calais to St Jean in one hop on the first day (430 miles) - it's daunting but I've cocked up on the booking and the holiday starts on the same day as the tunnel. Best route appreciated...

Then I've more time at the end of the first week to get down to Toulon so I'm looking for a stop half way - at the moment I'm split between a commerical hotel (read Travellodge) or somewhere nicer. We could rent a Gite for the weekend but I'm keen to get to the Med.

In Siblu we're booked in to a chalet, but will look at the campsite for next year... having bought the tent and all the gear... !!
