Using Rain X on plastic windows – a warning

Our Autoquest 200 has a large picture window at the back that frequently gets covered in road film. I decided to try using a special version of Rain X water repellent spray specially formulated for use on plastic windows to see if this would help stop this mucky water kicked up off the road from coating this rear window.

It was easy enough to apply with the supplied spray container and it does appears to make a small difference to how dirty the rear window gets.

However, I have recently noticed that there are now some very stubborn dark stains all around the area around the windows that I sprayed. My suspicion is that this is dirt impregnated into the protective film that inevitably overspray on to the surrounding bodywork when I applied the product.
