Guest Derek Uzzell Posted April 28, 2005 Posted April 28, 2005 Does anybody know, please, where one can obtain 'press-stud'-type fixings to attach motorhome removable carpets to the underlying floor, thus stopping them sliding about? I'm sure I've seen such things on exhibition models at the NEC Show, where the male part is screwed into (or onto) the floor and the female part is fixed to the carpet's underside. I've also been asked how best to prevent movement of replacement bound-edge carpets laid over existing carpets. I've suggested Velcro or double-sided carpet tape, and (obviously) one could tack/staple the top carpet through the lower one into the floor. Any other constructive ideas, please?
Guest terry Posted April 28, 2005 Posted April 28, 2005 hi derek autocruise use press-stud fixings i am sure if you phone them and ask for christine in aftersales she will be able to help you. very nice lady. terry
Guest AlfM Posted April 28, 2005 Posted April 28, 2005 I bought a kit of the press studs and the tool for connecting them (A sort of die to hold the stud in position while hitting the other side with a hammer to fit them to the material.) from a haberdashery. Ive also seen them in curtain shops. Its amazing what you can find mouching around while the other half is deciding what to buy.
Guest John P Posted April 28, 2005 Posted April 28, 2005 Most upholstery wholesalers stock these. See yellw pages. The stem or post is screwed into the floor and the button/stud is either sewn to the carpet or it may come in two pieces which fit through a hole which has to be punched through the carpet
Guest David Powell Posted April 28, 2005 Posted April 28, 2005 Hi Derek...B&Q carpet department sells a material that you can lay on the base carpet that stops other carpets/rugs creeping across the pile. The 'Bako-glide' stall at the M/H Shows used to do a similar but superior one, but sadly they stopped stocking it. I expect if you enquired of some large carpet shops in your area they would have something in that line. Alf answered you other queerie.
Guest petej Posted April 28, 2005 Posted April 28, 2005 Try Woolies of Market Deeping, Lincs, they specialise in trim, upholstery etc etc for vintage and classic cars and sell a miriad of goodies, including the pop studs you mention (part no's 15,16 & 17) and the fitting (durable dot) bed and punch (part no 238). They also sell a special invisible fastener for deeper pile carpets (part no's 59 & 60)you can see most of this online at www.woolies-trim.co.uk or phone 01778 347347 pete.

Guest Derek Uzzell Posted April 30, 2005 Posted April 30, 2005 Thanks for all the helpful suggestions. Personally, I'll have to wait to see what (if anything) Hobby use on their removable carpets, or whether the carpet's backing prevents movement sufficiently so that attachments prove unnecessary. (There's also the question of what 'removable carpets' actually gets me - how many carpet-pieces and where do they go?) Regarding the carpet-on-carpet enquiry, I had suggested a classic-car restoration firm might have something suitable (my old Turner sports-car used a variety of 'button'-type fittings to attach its tonneau-cover and soft-top), but it's very useful to be able to see what Woolies can offer.
