tonanti Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Just had a towbar fitted by STS towing solutions of Knottingley Yorks . Cannot speak highly enough of them (him). Makes the towbars on site, price included fitting and electrics and way below previous quotes from large dealerships. Company is in the supplement courtesy of the last MMM magazine.
Brian Kirby Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 I thought that if a vehicle was EC type approved, it was only legal to fit an EC type approved towbar. If the motothome is not type approved, fair enough. Otherwise, if he's making them up on site, how can he do this?
Dave Newell Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 As far as I'm aware Brian this only applies to cars at the moment but it will be ckanging soon. D.
Brian Kirby Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Thanks Dave. I'm afraid I'd just assumed it would apply to the base vehicles as well.
tonanti Posted January 23, 2007 Author Posted January 23, 2007 Spoke to STS reference the "approval" and he said you were 100% right on cars from 1998, but Motorhomes are on a commercial chassis (which is what the tow bar is fitted too) and were not subject to the EC approval , YET. Due to the many different layouts of motorhome, bespoke is sometimes the only answer. HAD ME WORRIED THERE FOR A WHILE. . Paul at STS very helpful, also repositioned my corner steadies rather than lose them. Towbars gaurenteed for life , electrics for 12 months . GW.
