Hymer S 650 drop down bed problem

I have a 2001Hymer S 650 with a broken bracket on the drop down bed.

Hymer are aware of the design flaw and supply a re enforcing kit.

It's not the gas strut but an arm that fixes close to one end of it, made from aluminium ( mistake , should have been steel ) measures about 46 cm long, 4 cm wide and 1.5 cm deep.

I've tried Peter Hambilton but he can't fit me in before he retires.

I would appreciate any ideas on who best to try to fix it.

I live near Ross on Wye but would travel anywhere as van is unusable until it's fixed.

You might try contacting Ross Weld (located near roundabout at start of M50)

I’ve no idea if they could repair your Hymer’s aluminium ‘arm’, or fabricate a new one in steel, but they may be able to advise on the best way forwards.

If you GOOGLE on “ross on wye aluminium welding” (omitting the quotes) there are other local(ish) firms that might be able to help.

Thanks Derek,

I'm waiting to here back from Hymer to see if they have any left in stock.

If not then it's a good idea to get to get both sides replaced and fabricated in steel and I'll try Ross Weld.

Do you know of any local guys that could fit them when I eventually have them ?

South Hereford Motorcaravan Centre (Sales Centre at Whitchurch - Service Centre near Coleford) should be able to do the work.

In fact, as they used to sell plenty of 2ndhand Hymers years ago, you might try contacting them about the broken bed-arm to see if they can recommend a local welder/fabricator.
