Terrytraveller Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 I have a 2004 Peugeot 2ltr HDi MH and will appreciate advice as to where I can find the gearbox oil level/filler plug. I have had a looked at Brian's excellent web site for info, see http://www.ourwanderer.org/photogal/1tturbopipe12.htm but Brians has the 1.9TD and the filling and drain is in a different position. Regards Terry
Dave Newell Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Hi Terry, the official answer is there ain't one! Peugeot, Citroen and Fiat apparently beleive the oil is good for the life of the vehicle and won't need topping up unless there is a leak and then you are supposed to drain the 'box, fix the leak and refill with new oil. Terrytraveller Posted January 26, 2007 Author Posted January 26, 2007 Hi Dave, Thanks for your reply - I thought that was going to be the answer as I had heard rumours. Strange there is a drain plug though - I suppose I could turn it over and refill it through that!!! I expect they left the drain plug so oil wouldn't run all over the place when the assemblies are laid apart. Did you get the information from the makers workshop manual Dave ? Regards Terry NB - Found following on a web site after Google search: Check Following: all versions - Position the vehicle on a lift. - Raise the vehicle. - Remove engine shield. - Undo the gearbox casing drain plug and collect the fluid in a suitable container. Do not let the oil disperse into the atmosphere because this could cause pollution. - Clean the drain plug. - Screw in the drain plug and tighten it to the recommended torque. - Introduce the oil into the gearbox casing via the gearbox oil vapour breather opening. 2800JTD Description Qty. Component Type Classification - 2 Litres. GEARBOX OIL As there is no opening for checking the oil level, stick to the quantities of oil recommended above. - Replace engine shield - Lower the vehicle and remove it from the lift.
Dave Newell Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 I had to look it up some time ago for a reader enquiry and I remembered it. D.
