360david
Is it legal to have the gas connected on a Motorhome when on the move. Thinking it would keep the fridge temperature better than on battery . thanks David
witzend
In UK if you have a crash protection device in your pig tail yes. In France it must be off you'd have to do searches for other countries Tried to add picture but got Request object error 'ASP 0104 : 80004005' Operation not Allowed /forums/includes/include-upload.asp, line 51 its a valve mine has green button in the pigtail right next to where it screws into bottle so if hose ruptures in a crash gas is turned off
lennyhb
Under the road traffic act it is illegal to run an appliance with a naked flame so in the case of a fridge the answer is no. You can run fan flued heating systems such as Truma Combi providing you have anti rupture hoses and a crash protection regulator like the Secumotion. aandncaravan
"Is it legal to have the gas connected on a Motorhome when on the move. Thinking it would keep the fridge temperature better than on battery . thanks, David" David, Yes that was established in this thread, but not in all countries : https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Running-a-Fridge-on-Gas-on-the-Move-/48234/ It needs careful reading as it is full of so much misinformation and there are some sensible safety pointers. You are right in almost all vehicles Gas will be more efficient and the Habitation battery will often charge more quickly with less stress on the electrics. The best Fridges are designed to stay lit, but some manufacturers installations can be poor and won't stay lit.
aandncaravan
The next best option to running the Fridge on gas, is to use the 230v setting as these circuits are usually better rated for the current drawn. The second to last post in the link referred to above documents an efficient way of using 230v for the Fridge ON THE MOVE without any safety or legal issues and taking advantage of the Fridge thermostat operation which the 12v setting often bypasses. 12v power is sometimes applied continuously, even if the Fridge is at the desired temperature. This solution is legal in all countries and faster charges the Habitation battery.
