I have had Garmin hardware for 6 years, but unfortunately know nothing regards your unit.

I suggest you contact Garmin customer support who are very good,

Unlike Tom Tom....

Hi Eric

I had a number of problems like this when I first bought mine! The upshot of the situation is, although they say Europe is pre-loaded it's not. Well a tiny bit re major cities is but you can't plan a route as it struggles and then as you say it goes into predictive text because that's all that's loaded. You can't load much yourself either as it only has a small memory(37meg if I remember correctly) What I suggest is you buy an SD card (1 gig Kingston is £15 including card reader and P&P from memorybits.co.uk with a 24 hour recorded delivery) load this into your GPS (It just slides in) then with the Navigator disc that comes with the C510 just download Mapsource and you can load the whole of Europe right to Croatia and beyond foc and send it to the memory card on the C510. It sounds complicated but it's not-it's very easy in fact once you've got the memory card. If you go on the Garmin site and unlock your unit you can also download FOC all the fixed speed cameras in the UK.

Hope this helps-if you need any assistance drop me a line

regards

Mike

Hello

Which Garmin Unit do you have. I have a Garmin Quest (not Garmin Quest 2). It does not give postcodes or speed cameras which is a bit annoying. I wonder if it would be worth trying to get it updated or is the other option to buy a new one.

the rather good garmin i3 is only £99 from many places now - comes with main roads of Europe and all that you are likely to need for a cheap unit. It is simple to use, uses proper batteries (so no panics when you forget the cable), and is genuinely pocket sized!

I can agree with this statement (excepting the reference to Tom Tom which I have no experience with). I've had my Garmin Street Pilot for about 6 years also. Its relatively primative by today's standards but has been remarkably reliable and has kept the marriage together quite well. On the odd occasions that I've contacted their customer service department they've been very helpful. Here's a case when calling the "experts" is best advice.

Eric,

I too bought the c510d for Xmas from haflords, and have spent some time getting used to the unit.

Firstly it does NOT have France pre loaded, but the maps for the whole of Europe are on the "Mapsource software" that you need to install onto a PC.

There is a small amount of space spare on the Garmin, but you should have a memory card free with the "D" model.

From what I can tell so far:-

You can download Maps Only to the card.

You can download a small area of maps to the garmin plus waypoints.

You CANNOT download routes to either (dissapointing)

Also, because I purchased the unit in December which is after the latest V9 software was released, I qualify for a free V9 software update which was sent to me on CD from Garmin (register on web site). I have still to install the is V9 map set as I only got it last week

Hope this helps, Also if anyone has more info about the C510D it would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Ade

I would appreciate some help please, reading this thread I saw MikeB's posting on downloading speed(safety)camera info for free. Not having these on my Nuvi310 I decided to have a look as I appreciated them on my old Navman.

From what I found Garmin want an annual subscription for this info - am I looking in the wrong place ?
