Hi Don I enjoyed reading about your trip down. This morning I had a phone call from a friend following behind you saying the weather around Madrid was really grim, snow and very difficult driving conditions. As we get very little info on the TV about what's going on over there perhaps you could provide a brief up date. We plan to make our way down next week - would like to know if its best to take the east route.

Hope you're having fun (or should that be "sun")

Vernon,

At present it's raining here and 10 C. We have missed the worst of the weather, it's been showery but not nearly as bad as the weather further up the coast. It seems some vans have been damaged by hailstones, this is not unusual at this time of the year.

Can't advise on what route to take but would suggest you get a 10 forecast for the areas in which you plan to travel through. It will at least give you a very rough idea of what to expect.

The Madrid to Valencia A3 road was closed Fri/Sat but I don't have any up to date info. If the going gets tough just pull into a filling station and hole up to conditions improve. Don't under any circumstances go off the major roads if it starts snowing, you won't be alone, just think of the poor souls stuck in their trying to keep warm.

The Spanish are usually on the ball with the snow clearing.

Enjoy your trip down, safe travelling

The excellent site I recommended in the 'Travel Within Spain' thread says that the section of the A3 that was closed between Siete Aguas-Requena is now coned to one lane and speed limited to 100kph.

Have you got the page with the map on the left hand side numbered 1?

Click on the map the Comunidad you want. In the middle section the different Provincias will be ticked. If you want you can untick the ones you don't want.

Then go to section 3 and click Buscar (Search).

If you are having trouble getting that link working, you can go to the main Ministry of Interior website http://www.mir.es/

There is a link down the left hand side for 'Tráfico'. That will open a new window and in the middle of the page under a section named 'Carreteras' you will find the link 'Estado de la Circulación'

hope this works for you

Thanks Don your news certainly confirms my friend's earlier call. It will obviously pay to keep a check on conditions before we leave. A week can make a big difference of course so hopefully things will improve for all concerned

Regards

Vernon
