steveandlisa - 2019-01-26 11:31 PMHello folks, Our Bailey fixed French bed mattress has now seen better days and needs replacing. Bailey spares are quoting around £850 for a new one. Can anyone recommend an alternative that is good quality and still performs as well as the original ;-) Regards Steve

Just as an idea, try and find a mattress outlet who can also offer to cut to size a mattress that will fit your requirements.

We managed to find 1 near where we live in Wakefield,  or alternatively have you explored the options via a mates overlay.

Memory foam is easily cut to whatever size you want and you may even be able to get away with the original mattress cover to save a few quid!

We are all different but many of us have found that a good quality memory foam mattress gives a darned night's kip without costing the earth to buy!!

On our first van (a 7 year old CI Carioca22 overcab) the OE mattress was worn out & uncomfortable. I replaced it with a Lidl memory foam mattress that cost around £80 IIRC. I bought a King size mattress that was about 100mm too wide & the same short of the bed space above the cab & "modified" it using an electric carving knife. The 100mm slice taken off the side was cut down to extend the length, with the cover being modified to suit. The resulting bed was very comfortable. The Lidl mattress was chosen over another type from Poundstrecher (Colorroll IIRC), as the Poundstrecher mattress was 200mm thick versus 150mm for the Lidl item & would not fit under the head end window in the side of the overcab.

These matresses seem to come in to Lidl a couple of times a year & are vacuum packed into a manageable roll to get them home - no hope of repacking them whan you cut the restraining wrap, though !

Got ours from ebay delivered in a vacum packed bag looked like a roll of carpet removed bag and it grew to a mattress in a few mins. Found that a electric carving knife excellent for cutting it to shape had ours several years and found it great similar to this link

Try Memoryfoam Wharehouse in Yorkshire.

They offer various thicknesses & will cut to any required size. The also sell "Coolmax" covers if you find memory foam too warm.

Thanks John, that's who we bought ours from, and for our bed at home and I could not remember their name to pass on!!

Good service, quick delivery, reasonable prices and advice by phone or email if needed.
