dethleffs 1991 motor home

This is my first time here. I retired in 2005 and planned after selling my house to travel in a motor home with my wife. So when i saw a 1991 6 berth Dethleffs Motor home with 81000 km on the clock for sale at £12000 ,i asked some one who new about them to look it over. i managed to get it for £11500. This was a year ago. I have used it twice and had problems. The vehicle required work which I have had done. The interior needed work as the boiler incorrectly fitted and could never have worked.

Now I am trying to find somewhere that i can get spares ie shower tray.

I think i may have ruined the start of our adventure by being stiched up when buying. It drives like a dream now but i am worried that may be I should get rid of it .

Any advice would be gratefully recieved by a couple new to the motor home world.

This forum has some brilliant brains on buying and servicing M/H's

One has to research very, very well and keep asking questions. Do not be in a hurry and never be hot headed into buying it 'cos it looks rosy.

Other than that I can't comment I've only had one from new.

I think for that money, even despite your problems, you did not do badly if the basic vehicle is in good condition. I bought our Dethleffs for the same reason, good price, but knowing that some work would be needed.

Regarding spares, have you tried contacting Dethleffs in Germany? I emailed them a couple of times and they couldnt have been more helpful. They dont sell parts directly, but would tell you where to get them in the UK if still available.

Universal shower trays etc that could probably be made to fit are available from motorhome parts specialists like O'Leary motorhomes, Magnum Motorhomes etc etc.-most of these have a website you can get info from. Good luck!
