gaslow instalations

hi,I have recently had a new gaslow system installed in a new motorhome 2/6kg tanks,auto changeover valve and external filler. I am very pleased with the ease of filling etc. The question is...is there a emergency cut off valve that can be fitted by the changeover valve so that i can leave the tanks turned on whilst travelling???I remember one being in MMM at least 9 months ago, any ideas? thanks cj.. ps if you open an account with flogas who have depots all over the uk you can get gas at 5% vat ,domestic rate rather than road duty vat!!!!it costs me £10 to fill 2, 6kg tanks!!! thanks again . (?)

Hi,

 

I think you may be thinking about "SecuMotion" which is a valve made by Truma which will cut off in the event of a serious leak developing possibly from and accident etc. but if you are thinking of using this type of device you will need to read up on it, as i am not sure it is legal in all European counties, you should be able to find details on www.truma.com web site of just put SecuMotion in Google or any other search engine

Brian: The regulator to which Terry is referring is the 'ordinary' Truma/GOK 30mbar bulkhead-mounting product (the one all the controversy has been about). This has a test-point and manual shut-off valve integrated into the regulator's body-casting on the output side, and closing the shut-off valve would allow one to isolate the leisure-vehicle's complete fixed gas system (including all the gas appliances) 'downstream' of the regulator.

 

However, it may well be the SecuMotion system (called Drive-Safe in the UK) that cej is thinking of. This uses a specialised variant of the ordinary Truma/GOK regulator that (if the drawing in Truma's catalogue is to be believed) does not include a manual shut-off valve.

 

The Drive-Safe regulator shuts down automatically if it senses excess gas-flow 'downstream' (ie. if a major gas leak occurs in the leisure vehicle's fixed gas system). But, for this feature to work correctly, the regulator needs matching to the motorhome's gas system - that's why there are 4 different Drive-Safe regulators. In addition to the specialised regulator Drive-Safe employs a special high-pressure 'pigtail' that contains a valve to protect against the possibility of the hose being ruptured. The complete Drive-Safe system (regulator + hose) meets particular EU safety requirements relating to use of suitable LPG-fuelled heaters (like Truma's C-Series) being operated in moving vehicles, even in countries (like France) where this practice has previously been forbidden.

 

Cej: If you wanted to follow the Drive-Safe route you'd almost certainly have to junk your present Gaslow regulator/changeover arrangement and replace it with the Truma equivalent. (There's another Truma product called DuoComfort that can be linked to the Drive-Safe regulator to provide an auto-changeover capability.)

 

(I've got a brochure from BES Plumbing and Gas Supplies that advertises an automatic cut-off valve (£41.32 ex-VAT) that fits downstream of the regulator and seems to do what you want. However, the connections are 'wrong' for normal motorhome gas systems and I don't know what the effect would be of grafting it into your Gaslow set-up.)

 

This is really something to ask Gaslow about.
