Rear storage on VW T5 Camper - Auto Box or Thule?

We are looking for a towbar mounted storage box to fit under our Fiamma Bike carrier which still enables us to open the boot / tailgate.

 

We have been looked at the Auto Box Carrier (www.autobox-carrier.co.uk) to create extra storage on the back of my T5 Reimo conversion. Has anyone tried this?

 

We also looked at the Thule Back box, all good in theory except the boot does not open and neither does the box once the bikes are on the rack above.

 

I know the easy answer is to get a bigger motorhome, but how many of your vehicles can do 108mph down a German autobahn with four bikes on the back and full loaded for a month away! :-> (!)

As an ex VW Westfalia T3 addict, my thoughts are this.

 

I would be concerned as to the weight behind the back axle. a visit to a weighbridge would be advisable (With bikes and luggage on board). Only then will you know what kind of spare capacity you have if any :-S

 

I had a 4 bike rack on my USA Westfalia and purchased a large clip on bag (from Westfalia Germany) which attached to the bike rack – obviously no bikes could be carried at times with this arrangement – but camping is a compromise *-)
