By George ... We've got it!!!

We picked up our new Rimor today, yes, in the sleet and snow! It drove like a dream, the only thing we were a bit worried about was the fact that it doesn't have rear heating (ie heat exchanger) which our Rapido had, however, even though it was very cold on the way back from the dealership we were actually warmer in the Ford than we had been in the Rapido (Fiat) going down with the rear heating on! Just goes to prove how cr*p the Fiat heating was!

Anyway, its lovely, oodles of space and we are really pleased with it, can't wait until the weekend to get it all sorted and packed .. maybe then we'll be able to get into our other bedroom! Have to make seat covers (to protect them from the dogs) for the whole of the van, I can see my sewing machine being put to good use, I'm also going to see if I can alter the cab internal and external screens to fit so that should be fun to do! If not, we'll just get some more when we go to the NEC but it'll be a shame as the internal ones are new.

Whilst at the dealership we were able to take a piccy of the 2 vans next to each other, overall the Rimor isn't that much taller or particularly wider than the Rapido ... just 5ft longer! Must admit to a tear or two when having a last look at our little Rapido as we drove away ... :'( such happy memories though. :-)

There was a lovely surprise from the dealers though - Bob, the chap who was looking after us (very nice chap, as all the people at RDH are) - when we had sorted everything out and were ready to go, he walked over to me with a lovely bouquet of flowers, such a nice gesture, they have got pride of place in our lounge. They couldn't have made things any better for us, the whole of the buying process has been handled very pleasantly and efficiently, can't praise them highly enough and have every confidence that should we need anything sorted in the future it will be without a fuss.

Here's a piccy of the 2 vans together ... awwwww, I miss my Rapido but I can't wait to use my Rimor! :D

You can't beat a bit of extra length Mel and I hope that your new pride and joy turns out to be every bit as good as the first impression.

Prepare for a second mortgage for when you get ferry quotes etc!

Good luck and happy camping.

Enjoy the flowers Mel B you were lucky I have only had flowers when we bought a new car which was less than half the price we paid for our 2003 KONTIKI. I bet you cant wait to get away and try it out we bought our kontiki last March and we are still trying to fathom out how everything works.

Good luck with altering your screnes I know my sewing machine wouldnt cope with the thicknessess Ive broke more needles because my better half says IT SHOULD SEW IT !!! Happy Motoring. :-D

Gawd!! all these new van arrivals just making my jitters worse, only got 2 days to go. Just praying Derby is free from snow, having never driven one in our lives we are just beginning to wonder what we have done.

Well done Mel, bet you have a wonderful time with it, glad to hear the Transits are good , hopefully our twin wheels and RWD will help us with any snow or boggy ground, still not got the bread trays from Tesco yet.

Take care and hope to see you one of these days

Very best wishes for the new van, Mel. We hope you have many happy carefree trips in your Rimor. We nearly bought a van from RDH many moons ago but at that time they weren't doing part exchange so went elsewhere big mistake! Never ever been given flowers!!

I am more impatient now!! My wife and I are returning to the world of motorhomes after a break of 20 years when we last had a VW Transporter conversion and toured France and Spain with our two children (who are now married by the way). We are waiting for a new Burstner Solano T710 from Browns, but we have to wait till April. All the best.

Looks terrific Mel, I'm sure you'll have a great time in it.

And if you do the usual "try it out on local weekends" thing, Yorshire should be a good test of the Ford's heater, but they're usually pretty good.

I see Michele has upgraded too, to an old London bus. More room in that than in her Bessie - wonder if she's running away with Cliff Richard?

Call me a 'Rivet Counter' if you like, but you see that theirs is a Routemaster, a long one even, whereas Cliff Richard's bus was an RT

Hi Guys

Thanks muchly. We took it to work this afternoon for the gang to have a drool over, even the big boss man got all excited when my hubby drew up outside the office and ran through to tell me "It's here!" and promptly went out for a gander (he's a caravanner).

Michele - RDH are based at Kirkby in Ashfield, near Mansfield (go to: www.rdh.co.uk), very pleasant people. They mainly sell to motorcross, scrambling & motor cycle racing enthusiasts and only go to selected motorhome shows but they are an excellent gang of guys and gals and I really can't recommend them highly enough. They have a warehouse type set-up rather than a big plush showroom but the benefit of that is that they don't have the massive overheads that other firms have.

Colin - not sure about WORMS, I'm working on an alternative for Rimor owners and have a few suggestions which I'm going through at present.

Mark - it's a little bit taller than the Rapido but not so's you'd really notice.

Carol - I've got your PM ta, I'll let you know about the screens.

Randonneur - seeing as I don't drink I'm more than happy with flowers and my husband was happy with a few gallons of fuel!

Howie - I'll keep you up to date with what we get up to whilst you are a couch-motorhomer ... it does have REALLY comfy seats though!!!!

(lol)

The flowers are absolutely lovely - here, you can see for yourselves!

Some interesting info - when picking up our new van yesterday the chap told us that the fridge has a 'control panel' defroster! Apparently the separate freezer works so well on full that it actually can cause the dials immediately above it to freeze solid so you can't turn them, to get round this the manufacturer has installed a heating element behind the facia panel which you just pop on for 10 seconds or so and it warms the dials sufficiently for you to be able to use them!!!!!!! 8-)

It's not brown, as if I'd have a brown carpet! It's actually a dark pink/purple! It just doesn't photographe well when the flash on the camera goes.

As for names for my signature, here are some possibles that Campbell and me have come up with:

DREAMS - Dedicated Rimor Enthusiasts' And Motorhomers' Society

ROB - Rimor Owners' Bureau

ROAMS - Rimor Owners' And Motorhomers' Society

ROSE - Rimor Owners' Society - England

ROME - Rimor Owning Motorhome Enthusiasts

ARM - Association of Rimor Motorhomers

ARK - Association of Rimor Keepers

BARK - British Association of Rimor Keepers

DARK - Dedicated Association of Rimor Keepers

ROD - Rimor Owning Devotees

CORE – Club Of Rimor Enthusiasts

ROADS - Rimor Owners' And Drivers' Society

RIMORS - Rimor In My Own Road Society

CAMPER - Club for Ancient/All Motorhome Enthusiasts with Rimors

Anyone got any others?

Mel
