It seems either the IoM exporter, or the editor of said "major national (presumably Brexit backing) newspaper" could have saved Boris his present embarrassment had either bothered to read the requirement fully, and check its origin.

It could be of course that the editor was setting him up to make a fool of himself ( again ).

;-)

He clearly consorts with people who give him unreliable information.

Doesn't really matter too much when talking about kippers - but it does mean that Brits can end up in jail in Iran if he broadcasts unreliable info he has been given without checking it

We just have to hope that he surrounds himself with wiser counsel from next week.

:-(

Hate alarm ... Hate alarm ... Hate alarm ... Hate alarm ...

That's what I meant about language degradation Tweetie. It isn't hate, its just people airing their reservations about a character they distrust.

There are many shades of grey between your unconditional love for Boris, and hating him.

He has proved himself untruthful and unfaithful, he has proved himself careless with confidential information, and frequently shoots (inaccurately) from the hip. He seems impatient with detail, but easily has the mental capacity to absorb it. So, the prospect of that character mix in a Prime Minister is worrying, whatever his position on Brexit or his party allegiance.

Your unconditional love for Boris seems founded only on his position on Brexit and his party allegiance. When the Brexit chips go down, I wonder how enduring that unconditional love will prove? :-D

We've had 40 years of "Their Laws" so majority of our fishing laws are the EU's fecking laws >:-) .......

Maybe, maybe not. But, there is no requirement for the kippers to be shipped with an ice pillow. As the EU has no such standard, the FSA requirement can not have come from the EU, can it?

Further clarification here: http://tinyurl.com/yxuyxq7p

Smoked is a way of preserving, so falls outside the scope of the EU's regs, and as the item is preserved, also falls outside FSA requirements - other than for it be packed so as to arrive in good condition.

Fake news whips up teacup storm! :-D

Sorry to rain on your parade Brian but there are two ways of smoking kippers one is hot smoking which cooks the product the other is cold smoking which does not cook the fish thus the product is fresh fish and regulations require that the product is kept refrigerated until consumption. On a direct to customer system this would need being kept on ice as any other type of delivery would be difficult. As to the certification the delivery at the point of entry to the EU must satisfy the conditions laid down by the fisheries dept. of the commission.

pick on poor old Boris .

How would you feel about Boris if you or your loved one were in an Iranian jail because of his careless words, or learned that he had promised to help his crooked Eton chum get you or your loved one beaten up?

When has Dennis Skinner been untruthful and unfaithful?

Well calling a fellow MP a "piece of s**t" in the House of Commons is clearly untruthful princess , unless of course you agree with him

Not at all John, and thanks for the kipper info. I bow to your superior knowledge of kippers - which I don't eat. :-)

However, looking at Manx kippers, it seems they are traditionally salted before being cold smoked. It seems thousands are exported around the world, and only one producer seemed to be having trouble. My understanding (prompted by your post), is that because they are salted they are classed as preserved, and not fresh, and that the smoking process only serves to dry, and flavour, them. If this is correct, as the other producers seem to think, it was all a complete storm in a teacup of misinformation.

However, the point was not really kippers (about which I now know far more than I ever wanted :-D) but Boris and his tendency to grab on any passing argument, however inappropriate or inaccurate, and use it unchecked to back a point he wants to make. He may not be the worst offender, but he's well up the chart!

Some, Tweetie, but not all, and not on the same scale. He's in a league of his own on those measures. Just ask yourself whether you would buy a used car from him. You'd enjoy the experience no end, and you'd come away laughing. But would you actually buy? :-D
