Miniminus
Hi i have 2016 150 2.3 ducato a-class. Covered now 9000 miles. For the last few thousand miles i have been hearing a tapping/ticking sound from the engine when the revs are allowed to drop with no load on the engine between 2000rpm it starts and continues noticeably until about 1400rpm then seems to go away. It does not seem to do it until the engine is warm. I cant be sure but it is potentially becoming noticeable at idle now also. The sound reminds me of badly set tappets on old minis or worn old ford cvh. I will attempt to record the sound this week but wondered if anyone had had this on theres. Any help much appreciated. Van is out of warranty now i think as german manufacture and usually only get 2 years from fiat. I live in Warwickshire if anyone can recommend a fiat ducato specialist or dealer near by. weldted
Possibly a hydraulic tappet, might be worth engine flush new oil and filter. I know you only have 9000 miles on it. Other remote possibility is if any diesel has got into the engine oil and diluted it, usually accompanied by loss of power.
Derek Uzzell
Grays Garage in Warwick advertises servicing of “the full range of Fiat cars and Fiat commercial vehicles”. http://www.graysgarage.co.uk/ You can check for other Fiat Professional agencies here https://www.fiatprofessional.com/uk/retailers Your Ducato should have had a service in 2018 that would have involved an oil/oil-filter change. If that’s so, its oil and filter should be OK. My 2015 Ducato with 150hp motor doesn’t make the type of noise you’ve referred to. If it did and I couldn’t identify an obvious cause (like something loose under the bonnet) I’d want it investigated professionally without delay, particularly if, as in your case, the phenomenon seemed to be worsening. mikefitz
As suggested see a Fiat dealer. There was a batch of faulty cam shafts fitted to the 2.3 engine around the time of your van build . Mike
monique.hubrechtsgm
Check whit fiat when the engine was assembled by Fiat powertrain FPT. And of the recalls relating to the engine. A fiat dealer can give you support. If you are technical check the way of the oil from the sump and back to the sump and all in between, including crankcase ventilation. Miniminus
Thanks for the recommendation for grays. They are quite local and look like they will be ok to book in with to get it checked out.

Mike For the record, details of the Ducato-related recall are here https://uk.car-recalls.eu/listing/fiat-ducato-camshaft-may-fail/ (Apparently 56 of the 239 Ducatos affected were marketed in Australia, which would leave 183 vehicles sold elsewhere.)
