ChrisCM
Hi Guys, Has anyone any experience of an Amperor SC-300 / PID20 monitor solar charge controller? I’m presently touring the very South of France in our Devon Aztec. She is fitted with a 70W solar panel feeding 2 x95Ah batteries via the SC-300. Everything is monitored by a Victron BMS. When in the UK all seems fine with Solar setup, keeping the batteries at 100% but here in France as the temperature rises the solar system just shuts down and gives no output. The temperatures here at the moment have been 40 degrees +. Is this normal?
spirou
Most likely much more than 40° inside the van and entirely possible it has a high temperature safety switch to prevent boiling the batteries in the event of a thermal runaway.
ChrisCM
Yes, I rather suspected this may be the problem, the info I have for the controller doesn’t specify an operating temperature range and I think Amperor are no longer in business so no help there. I have a Victron and that’s specified to 60 degrees C with reduced charge rate over 40. The Amperor seems to shut down totally. Suppose I’ll have to wait till the heatwave is over or install a cooling fan!
