sandalwood
Has anyone had the backlight made brighter on a Fiat. Very hard to see, Fiat did say they could fix, we telephoned, registered, no reply at all, despite continually calling Wife
Derek Uzzell
The Fiat ‘fix’ to improve instrument readability (that involves a software revision) is only offered for Ducato X290 models that began to be produced in mid-2014. When Ducato Euro 6 models became available (in mid-2016) instrument-cluster lighting came on automatically when the vehicle’s ignition is switched on. I believe your Ducato is a 2012 model. If that’s correct, there’s no point you trying to contact Fiat as the software revision that turns on instrument backlighting with the ignition cannot be applied to your motorhome. weldted
Hi, is that a free fix or chargeable? We have a 2019 Burstner and find it hard to see the speedo etc daytime, iv turned the dimmer up to max but still no good.
Deneb
On a 2019 van the behaviour should already be present from the factory. The instrument cluster illumination should be on whenever the engine is running, independent of whether headlights are on or off. Older vans defaulted to no illumination unless the headlights were switched on, before the update. It was a free update for affected X290s. If the cluster is not illuminating on a newer van built since the fix was introduced into production, I guess it would be treated as ma fault and fixed under warranty if the vehicle is within the warranty period. Derek Uzzell
It needs emphasising that, whether the ‘ignition on’ instrument-panel illumination is standard (mid-2016-onwards Ducatos) or the result of the Fiat software-revision ‘fix’ for mid-2014-onwards X290s that lacked this, the resultant illumination does not exceed the maximum level that can be set via the MENU system. Basically, all you can get is the same illumination level that used to be available if you switched the headlamps on.
Hans
It is a bad design. These umbrellas need something better than the present. Undependent from day- night time. The marks should be bright all the time when contact is on. Shame on you fiat professional.
jenkothewanderer
Hi I tackled this problem some time ago by purchasing a lenghth of stick on 12 volt led lighting and neatly running it to the 12 volt cigar lighter socket. If you stick it under the dashboard hood you do not see the lights but benefit from lighting the speedo. Works a treat !!!
Derek Uzzell
I did the same using a strip of ‘directional’ LEDs and hard-wiring the 12V power supply. There’s a photo in this August 2018 forum-thread showing the effect https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Peugot-dashboard-darkness/49962/
