Natali
Can you compare Hobby an Hymer caravans? The Hobby caravan production facility is one of the largest production sites in Europe. Hobby sells about 20 000 caravans per year. Hymer about 4000 caravans per year. Why? Hobby - 20 000 and Hymer 4 000??? Prise, qoulity? Something else? Ralph
No reply to your question Natalie (perhaps the caravan section would be better) but I was wondering what's under the cloth in your picture? Are you a conjurer? :-D
Derek Uzzell
The reason is simple and, dare I say, self evident. The Hobby company has always concentrated on high-volume caravan production with a relatively small number of motorhomes being produced annually. (Motorhomes will play an increasingly important role in Hobby's future however.) Conversely, Hymer has concentrated on high-volume motorhome production (and international expansion of the Hymer Group) with caravans, to some extent, playing second fiddle. Fetch Carry
Does your Hymer caravan figures include Eriba?
Brian Kirby
Careful!Eriba is just part of the much larger Hymer Group, which includes, I believe, Liaka, Dethleffs, Burstner, Lord Munsterland Caravans, TEC, Geist (LMC made) and a few others. Some of these group companies make more caravans than motorhomes, others vice versa. For the full picture you'd need to include the lot, which would be very time consuming. Simpler to leave the investigation at those units produced under the Hymer name only, I think.
Derek Uzzell
Natali: Can you say why you particularly wish to compare Hobby and Hymer caravans? There are other German manufacturers (Fendt and Knaus, for instance) that produce huge quantities of caravans annually and, I would have thought, would be more obvious competitors to Hobby than Hymer in terms of caravan output and sales. It would also be interesting to learn why you've chosen UK leisure-vehicle forums as a potential source of information as only a relatively tiny number of German-built caravans is sold in this country. Wouldn't you be better looking at German websites and forums? I notice that some of these carry caravan test-reports (www.camping-cars-caravans.de is one example) and it is quite likely that a German caravan magazine has, at some stage, produced a 'customer satisfaction' survey for caravans similar to that published regularly by Pro-mobil for motorhomes. I think I remember you saying you are a journalist, so you should be able to discover if this has happened through your Press contacts.
