IMP
We have just purchased an Autotrail Savannah. The previous owner advised us to get a portable induction hob - as the built in hot plate is very slow to heat up and energy hungry. Can anyone give me any first hand experience of using one in a Motorhome?
Randonneur
We have two, one from Lidl and the other from another motorhome who was selling up. They were so good that I had an induction hob in our house. Don't forget you need pans suitable for induction.
thebishbus
Very good from the cooking point of view , but I think a single hob draws about 2000 watts, could be a problem on low amp hook ups abroad when other things are on . bounty hunter
Ours is 1000 watt and works fine on a 6 amp campsite. To be honest it's not up at the highest setting for long John
IMP
Thanks for your replies. I think that I will see how we get on without one, first. Then, if required, look for a 1000 watt one.
tonyishuk
We have a Stella Induction hob, works very well and a lot safer than gas or electric hob. The cool down period is rapid allowing quicker movement to storage after use. Check prices as they seem to vary a lot for the same units Happy cooking
BruceM
I don’t understand why motorhomers might prefer to use an induction hob over gas. What’s the angle?
Geeco
BruceM - 2019-12-16 12:47 PMI don’t understand why motorhomers might prefer to use an induction hob over gas. What’s the angle? We purchased a single induction hob about 2 years ago. It was an inexpensive no frills model that was around £30 from memory. We use it often when we are not using our Weber. We use it outside under the awning to avoid cooking smells in the MH. General rule is meat outside steamed veggies inside. Cheers
Billggski
"I don’t understand why motorhomers might prefer to use an induction hob over gas. What’s the angle?" 1) you're using their electricity, not your gas. 2) cleaner and safer 3) cools quickly so can be packed away 4) small, cheap and portable 5) can be used outside and inside
